Abstract: Apparatus and method according to the present invention includes a wireless cursor position image device (220) and a control base (250) for detecting direction and velocity of motion of the device to calculate relative cursor motion on a display system. The image device includes a light sensing detector (224), a demodulator for removing a reference signal from the detected light, and a transducer (230) driven by the reference signal from the demodulator for transmitting a low frequency signal to the control base (250). The control base includes a light emitter transducer (252) for transmitting a modulated light signal to the image device (220), a reference signal generator, two or more low frequency detectors (254, 256) for detecting signals transmitted by the image device transducer (230), means for comparing the outputs from the detectors, and means for generating cursor control signals from the compared detector output signals.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of providing a visual representation of a curve image wherein curve image data is provided by a B-Spline equation computed with a forward difference technique using scaled integer variables. The method provides for the scaling of the initial base matrix computation of the geometry vector coefficients followed by the computation of the forward difference interval coefficients using integer arithmetic. The curve coordinate values for each interval are computed from the forward difference interval coefficient integers descaled by the scaling parameter. By employing integer arithmetic in a divide approximation technique, the use of floating point arithmetic is avoided. The apparatus for producing the visual representation of the curve image includes a computational section that provides for pipelined computations of the forward difference interval coefficients to provide high-speed curve coordinate value computation.

Abstract: ® A memory array (16) associated with a display (22) can be accessed in either one of two substantially orthogonal directions. The memory array is structured so that it may be accessed, such as for reading or writing, in either the hor- lzontal or vertical direction. Pei position representations in the array are arranged so that vertically sequential pel positions in a given column are represented by data in sequential memory modules rather than by data in the same memory module. Likewise, horizontally sequential pels in a given row are represented by data in sequential modules rather than in the same module. The memory array is comprised of a plurality of separate memory modules and is structured so that both x and y directional accessing into and out of the array is accomplished on a bit addressable x, y field. This enables any bit string in the array to be addressed and to be read from or written into the array in either the x or y direction. No word or byte boundaries exist in either the x direction of access or the y direction of access.
