Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for providing security to a computer on a computer network so as to permit a remote configuration of the computer. SOLUTION: When a system meets a network supply privilege access password(PAP) during the system boot-up operation of the computer, that network supply PAP is compared with a system install PAP. The network supply PAP is stored into a first place of the non-volatile memory of the computer and the system install PAP is stored into a second place of the non-volatile memory. The system install PAP is previously inputted through a keyboard to the computer. When the network supply PAP does not match with the system install PAP, an illegality proving mechanism is set into the computer. When the network supply PAP is matched therewith, boot-up is continued. After boot-up is completed, the configuration of the computer can be remotely executed through the network.

Abstract: A computer system includes a security subsystem which is able to trustfully track which files or storage areas of a storage device have been altered since a last virus scan. The trusted information can then be used to accelerate scans for undesirable code or data such as viruses and invalid or corrupt registry entries. In the case of viruses, files or storage areas which have been altered are scanned against a super-set of virus definitions. Unaltered files or storage areas are scanned against a subset of virus definitions.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for securing a computer and a computer for use in such method and system. The method includes providing a zone 302 of authorized operation for the computer 306; determining if a possessor of the computer is authorized to have possession when the computer and the possessor leaves the zone of authorized operation and pass through a portal 316; and allowing continued access to the computer without requiring a password if the possessor is authorized. The method and system are transparent to the possessor and provide no advantage in hiding the computer from the portal. This method and system may be easily applied in a corporate environment and are particularly apt for securing mobile computer systems.

Abstract: Each of a number of computers includes a first glass fibre cable for transmitting optical signal beams, and a second glass fibre cable for receiving optical signal beams. A prism divides an optical signal beam from a first glass fibre cable of one of the computers into a number of optical signal beams. Each of the optical signal beams is allocated its own frequency within the light spectrum. A mirror array uses a number of deformable mirrors to route each of the signal beams to a corresponding second glass fibre cable of at least one of the computers. The optical signal beams may contain information modulated by a number of light frequencies. Independent claims are included for an optoelectric computer network and a method of switching signals in an optoelectric computer network.
