Abstract: PURPOSE: To drive a music CD by devising the control operation of the device such that a disk is ejected through the depression of an eject button for less than a prescribed time and the CD is reproduced through the depression of the eject button for a prescribed time or over so as to continue an application during execution without intermission. CONSTITUTION: When an eject button 6 of a CD-ROM drive is depressed, the depression time is started to be measured by a software timer of a ROM 68. When the depression time is 2sec or over, it is judged that 'reproduction of music CD' is requested, and whether or not an accessible disk 53 is loaded on a tray and audio data are in existence on the disk 53 are judged. When the disk 53 and data are not in existence, the operation of the button 6 is regarded as a request of 'tray ejection' and the tray is ejected. Conversely when the disk 53 and data are in existence, only one channel is read sequentially from a head of a TOC stored in a RAM 69, the kind of the corresponding track is recognized, and when a command of track reproduction is issued when the kind of the track is acceptable and the 'reproduction of music CD' is continued.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To allow an extension device capable of being mounted on a host to make an accurate response at a high speed to a series of operations with respect to power management of the host. CONSTITUTION: When power supply to the extension device is interrupted by the computer system transited to the power save mode such as a suspend mode, work data stored in a RAM being a 1st storage means and contents of a register in an interface circuit being a component of part of an interface means are lost. The extension device is provided with a flush memory as a nonvolatile 2nd storage means and the status of the extension device (including work data in the RAM and contents of the register in the interface circuit) is saved in the flush memory before the computer system enters the suspend mode. Furthermore, according to the control method of the extension device by this invention, the storage content of the flush memory is restored to each section before the computer system resumes.
