Abstract: An expansion device detachably installed into a computer system, for example a "notebook" computer, includes a central processor (10) for controlling the operation of the expansion device, first, volatile data storage means (16) for use as working area by the central processor, an interface (9) for communicating with the computer system, and means (13) for supplying power from the computer system to the powered elements in the expansion device. In order to permit a task to be re-started from the same point after power-down, a second, non-volatile data storage means (17) is provided for saving context information held by the interface and the data stored in the first data storage means in response to a request from the computer system via the interface means.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an S/N ratio in a mute state by informing an information processor of the fact that it is in the mute state when the read out data are not the audio data. SOLUTION: A CPU: 220 discriminates whether a signal read by an optical head 211 is either of the audio data or the computer data. When the read data are the audio data, the data are sent out through a DAC: 230, and the CPU: 220 informs the information processor of the mute signal of a low level. Further, when the read data are the computer data, the data are sent out to the information processor through a decoder circuit 240A and an interface circuit 240B, and the CPU: 220 outputs the mute signal of a high level to the information processor. High potential is applied to the gate of an FET switch 270, and an output of a driver 232 is lowered to a grounded level, and the occurrence of a noise is prevented.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To allow an extension device capable of being mounted on a host to make an accurate response at a high speed to a series of operations with respect to power management of the host. CONSTITUTION: When power supply to the extension device is interrupted by the computer system transited to the power save mode such as a suspend mode, work data stored in a RAM being a 1st storage means and contents of a register in an interface circuit being a component of part of an interface means are lost. The extension device is provided with a flush memory as a nonvolatile 2nd storage means and the status of the extension device (including work data in the RAM and contents of the register in the interface circuit) is saved in the flush memory before the computer system enters the suspend mode. Furthermore, according to the control method of the extension device by this invention, the storage content of the flush memory is restored to each section before the computer system resumes.
