Abstract: A restartable load without logging method permits the restart of a LOAD operation from the last COMMIT point without re­quiring the writing of images of loaded records to the log. Instead, the method logs only a minimal amount of information, recording positions within the data sets to be loaded and within the tablespace being loaded.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of processing requests for the transfer of data from a first data base (40) to a second data base (50) comprising the steps of creating a communications link between the two data bases, and initially transferring from the first data base to the second data base information about the data to be transferred, determining in the second data base the characteristics of the information, and subsequently transferring the required data if the characteristics of the information satisfy predetermined requirements. According to the invention the method is characterised in that the transferred information comprises a description (44) of the data formats used in the first data base, and a description (45) of the data base language used in the first data base. The invention also relates to apparatus for implementing the above method.

The invention is a method for converting data transmitted between the first and second database management systems, the method including the steps of sending from the first to the second database management system a command containing data in a data format native to the first database management system; and at the second database management system, converting the data in the command into a data format native to the second database management system.
