Abstract: The present invention relates to a data base system comprising a first computer (10) which is used to execute an application program (14), a data base (56) containing selected data for use in connection with the application program, a second computer (12) which is used to control the part of the data base system which contains the data base, the first and second computers being different types, means 17) for extracting from the application program data base commands which can be executed on the second computer but cannot be executed on the first computer, and means for replacing the extracted data base commands with call commands and for using the call commands to initiate the execution of the data base commands when required. According to the invention the data base system is characterised in that it also comprises means (46, 50) for transmitting the data base commands to the second computer, and means (52) for utilising the call commands in the application program to initiate the execution of the data base commands by the second computer on the selected data in the data base.

Abstract: The method and apparatus of the present invention permit the automatic generation of a meeting agenda for a requested meeting concerning a document stored within a data processing system. A document, such as an invention disclosure document, is stored within a data processing system and identified as the subject of a desired meeting. Evaluation comments by a plurality of users within the data processing system regarding the identified document are tabulated and utilized to create a meeting agenda automatically in response to a request for a meeting. In one preferred embodiment of the present invention, desired meeting parameters including at least: a desired meeting duration; a desired date span; and a list of desired attendees are selected by a meeting requester and copies of the automatically created meeting agenda are automatically transmitted to each desired attendee in conjunction with a notice of the scheduled meeting. Printed copies of the meeting agenda may also be automatically created in response to a scheduled meeting.

Abstract: The invention establishes the context in which data exchanged between dissimilar relational database management systems can be mutually understood and preserved. The invention accomplishes this by establishing layers of descriptive information which isolate machine characteristics, levels of support software, and user data descriptions. Optimized processing is achieved by processing the different descriptor levels at different times during the development and execution of the database management systems. Minimal descriptive information is exchanged between the cooperating database management systems. For systems which match, data conversion is completely avoided. For systems which do not match, data conversion is minimized.
