Abstract: An arrangement of apparatus for safely writing data and parity to multiply-redundant storage comprises a first storage component operable to store at least a first mark in a storage device to index uniquely a pattern to be written by at least a data write; a write component operable to perform the at least data write; a further storage component operable to overwrite a mark in the storage device with at least a further mark to index uniquely a pattern to be written by a parity write; and a further write component operable to perform the parity write. Preferably, the first storage component comprises a second storage component operable to overwrite said at least first mark in said storage device with a second mark to index a pattern to be written by a first parity write; and the write component is further operable to perform the first parity write.

Abstract: A data storage system comprises a controller, a first lower performance storage medium and a second higher performance storage medium. The controller is connected to the storage mediums and is arranged to control IO access to the storage mediums. The controller is further arranged to store an image on the first storage medium, initiate a copy function from the first storage medium to the second storage medium, direct all IO access for the image to the second storage medium, periodically age data from the second storage medium to the first storage medium, create a new empty bitmap for each period, and in response to an IO access for data in the image, update the latest bitmap to indicate that the data has been accessed and update the previous bitmaps to indicate that the data has not been accessed.

Abstract: An apparatus for data transmission over a network includes a buffer and a timer mechanism for timing an optimum interval (less than the round-trip error response delay) for retransmission of data. A first accessor accesses data in the buffer for transmission and starts a first timeout clock. Second or further accessors of the buffer are responsive to a timeout to access the data, start a timeout clock and attempt to transmit the data on a path avoiding path elements used by prior accessors. A counter increments and decrements a count of the references to the buffer by accessors and signals when the count reaches zero. A memory manager returns the buffer to a free buffer pool responsive to the reference counter signaling that the count has reached zero. An analysis mechanism can be used to determine the optimum interval and tune the timer mechanism.

Abstract: In a stacked system, errors detected at a user application interface of one or more host systems are associated with root cause errors at a stack level below a virtualization layer by detecting an error at a user application interface; identifying an associated root cause error at a lower stack level; creating an error trace entry for the error; associating an error log identifier with the error trace entry; making the combined error log identifier and the error trace entry into an error identifier that is unique within the plurality of host systems in said stacked system; and communicating the error identifier to any requester of a service at a user application interface of one or more host systems when the service must be failed because of the root cause error.

Als Reaktion auf das Ermitteln, dass der zwischengeschaltete Datenträger und die zwischengeschaltete Zuordnung noch nicht erzeugt wurden, wird auf der Grundlage der zwischengeschalteten Zuordnung eine Abhängigkeit des zwischengeschalteten Datenträgers von dem ersten Datenträger in einer Abhängigkeitskette sowie eine Abhängigkeit des neuen Datenträgers von dem zwischengeschalteten Datenträger in der Abhängigkeitskette hergestellt.

Abstract: Provided are a method, computer program product and system for network multi-pathing. Paths to a storage system are through a first network type and a second network type. The first network type has a higher Input/Output (I/O) per second performance characteristic than the second network type. A length is determined from a received I/O request. The I/O request is sent on one of the paths to the storage system through the first network type in response to determining that the length of the I/O request is below a threshold length. The I/O request is sent on one of the paths to the storage system through the second network type in response to determining that the length of the I/O request is above the threshold length.
