Abstract: Gemäß einem Aspekt der vorliegenden Offenbarung werden ein Verfahren und eine Technik zum Koordinieren von Schreiboperationen in einem Datenspeichersystem offenbart. Das Verfahren beinhaltet: als Reaktion darauf, dass eine primäre Einheit eine Anforderung zum Schreiben in einen primären Speicher empfängt, Empfangen einer Anforderung einer Folgenummer von der primären Einheit; Erzeugen einer aktuellen Folgenummer für die Schreiboperation; Erzeugen eines ersten Bezeichners, der eine Identität von sekundären Einheiten angibt, die auf der Grundlage der aktuellen Folgenummer in einen sekundären Speicher schreiben; Erzeugen eines zweiten Bezeichners, der eine Identität von sekundären Einheiten angibt, die auf der Grundlage der aktuellen Folgenummer und einer vorherigen Folgenummer in einen sekundären Speicher schreiben; Übertragen der aktuellen Folgenummer und des zweiten Bezeichners an die primäre Einheit; und Übertragen der aktuellen Folgenummer und des ersten Bezeichners an die sekundären Einheiten, die auf der Grundlage der vorherigen Folgenummer in den sekundären Speicher schreiben.

Abstract: According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a method and technique for coordinating write sequences in a data storage system is disclosed. The method includes: responsive to a primary device receiving a request to write to primary storage, receiving from the primary device a request for a sequence number; generating a current sequence number for the write; generating a first identifier indicating an identity of secondary devices writing to secondary storage based on the current sequence number; generating a second identifier indicating an identity of secondary devices writing to secondary storage based on the current sequence number and a previous sequence number; transmitting the current sequence number and the second identifier to the primary device; and transmitting the current sequence number and the first identifier to the secondary devices writing to secondary storage based on the previous sequence number.

Abstract: A method of handling a backup process comprises receiving an instruction initiating a backup process from a source storage volume to a target storage volume, identifying the type of backup process as either a full backup process intended to make a complete copy of the source storage volume on the target storage volume or a fractional backup process intended to make a copy of data changed on the source storage volume on the target storage volume, and if a cascade exists for the identified backup process type, adding the target storage volume to the existing cascade for the identified backup process type, or if a cascade does not exist for the identified backup process type, starting a new cascade of the target storage volume from the source storage volume.
