Abstract: A display device includes a display panel having a display surface having a display region where an image is displayed and an opposite surface on an opposite side of the display surface, a color separation element placed on the opposite surface side of the display panel and configured to disperse light from a light source and to emit, to the display panel, a plurality of rays of separated light with wavelengths different from each other, and an adhesive portion bonding the display panel to the color separation element. Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a liquid crystal panel and a color separation element substrate. The substrate includes a bonding area in a peripheral portion of a surface opposing the panel, and a color separation groove that serves as a color separation element is formed in an effective display area inside the bonding area. The panel includes a bonding area in a peripheral portion of the substrate on an incident surface side of the backlight, and a polarizer is disposed on an inner side the bonding area. The bonding area of the substrate and the bonding area of the panel are bonded to each other via a sealant layer formed from a sealant applied thereon and cured.
