Abstract: PURPOSE:To attempt to improve heat insulating property, lightweightness, voluminousness, hand, etc., by coating a base material with a compsn. contg. a specified self-dispersing type aq. vinyl resin emulsion and drying them by heating. CONSTITUTION:A compsn. contg. a self-dispersing type aq. vinyl resin emulsion having a particle diameter of 0.001-0.05mum and a number-average MW of 10,000-500,000 is obtd. by soln.-polymerizing 0.5-60wt.% monomer having a salt- forming group or a polyalkylene oxide group and a polymerizable double bond (e.g., acrylic acid) and 99.95-40wt.% monomer polymerizable therewith (e.g., methyl acrylate) in the presence of 0.05-0.5wt.% radical initiator (e.g., t-butyl hydroperoxide) based on the whole monomer and, if necessary, a chain transfer agent in an alcoholic and/or a ketone solvent at 50 deg.C - solvent reflux temp., adding, if necessary, a neutralizing agent to ionize the basic groups, adding water thereto and distilling the solvent therefrom to effect phase reversal to a water phase. Then, a base material is coated with a foam obtd. by expanding this compsn. 1.5-10-fold or the foam is cast in a mold and they are heated and dried.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin which scarcely forms agglomerates during polymerization and has a rate of polymerization, by polymerizing a vinyl aromatic monomer with a vinyl cyanide monomer in the presence of a butadiene polymer latex by using a specified surfactant. CONSTITUTION:A surfactant (D) having at least one alkenyl or alkyl group and comprising a substituted succinic acid (salt) as an essential component is obtained by reacting a 4-12C alpha,beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid (anhydride) (a) selected from among maleic, fumaric, itaconic and citraconic acid with an 8-40C alkylene, preferably, an 8-22C linear alkylene (b) (e.g., hexadecene) and, optionally, hydrogenating the product. A mixture of a vinylaromatic monomer (B) with a vinyl cyanide (C) is graft-polymerized in the presence of a butadiene polymer latex (A) by adding 0.1-2pts.wt., per 100pts.wt. graft monomer, component D in such a way that 0-1.0pt.wt. component D is added at the start of polymerization and 0.5-2.0pts.wt. component D is added after the start of the polymerization reaction.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the lowering in heat transfer and cooling effect by suppressing the formation of scale, by constituting a scale inhibitor on the basis of polymaleic acid with MW of 200-5,000. CONSTITUTION:Alkali metal hydroxide such as caustic soda or aqueous ammonia is added to an aqueous solution of maleic acid in a ratio of 0-150mol to 100mol of maleic acid. Subsequently, this solution is heated to 50-160 deg.C and a polymerization initiator is dripped in said solution to polymerize maleic acid. By this method, polymaleic acid represented by formula (wherein R1 and R2 are H, OH or OS3M, M is one or more component selected from a group consisting of H, an alkali metal such as Na or K, NH4 and an alkaline earth metal such as Ca or Mg and m is 3-80) is obtained and used as a main component.

Abstract: PURPOSE: The titled surfactant capable of providng stable, low-foaming emulsions, consisting mainly of a salt of a copolymer consisting of a carboxyl group or sulfonic acid group-containing unsaturated monomer and an acrylate ester monomer in a specified weight ratio.
CONSTITUTION: 85W99wt% carboxyl group or sulfonic acid group-containing unsaturated monomer (e.g., acrylic acid or vinylsulfonic acid) is mixed with 15W 1wt% ester of an 8W20C aliphatic alcohol with (meth)acrylic acid (e.g., lauryl acrylate or stearyl acrylate). Then, above 60wt% resulting monomer mixture as an essential component is copolymerized with below 40wt% different nonionic unsaturated monomer (e.g., ethyl acrylate or acrylamide). Then, the produced copolymer is neutralized into a salt, which is the purpose surfactant for use in emuosion copolymerization.

A vinyl monomer is polymerized in the presence of the emulsion, to give an aq. fluororesin dispersion which has a solid content of 30-50wt.% and comprises an aq. dispersion of double-structured resin particles having shells wherein a fluororesin is distributed. The dispersion, if necessary after mixed with a mildewproofing agent, a defoamer, a plasticizer, etc., is mixed with a white cement when used in sealing a tile joint.
