Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize applied energy, to improve vapor deposition efficiency, to increase film forming velocity, and to improve productivity by disposing a substance, having a melting point higher than that of a metallic material, on a part of the position to be irradiated with electron beam, at the time of melting a metallic mateal in a crucible by electron beam irradiation and vapor-depositing a thin film. SOLUTION: A crucible 21 is constituted of a crucible 22 made of copper, cooled by a cooling medium, and a heat-insulated crucible 23. A powder 24 of a refractory material is disposed on the surface of a metallic material 25 held in the heat-insulated crucible 23, or a columnar body extending from the bottom of the crucible 21 to the surface of the metallic material 25 is provided. The proportion of the area of the refractory material to the surface area of the metallic material 25 is regulate to 0.05-10%. It is preferable that the refractory material is uniformly distributed in the metal surface. As the refractory material, ceramic Al2 O3 , MgO, W, and Mo are preferred and these are used independently or in combination according to the purpose.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the envelope characteristics while reducing the error rate by setting the total density of a magnetic recording medium comprising a support and a magnetic layer formed thereon and having a total thickness of specified value or less within a specified range thereby enhancing head touch. SOLUTION: Density of the entire magnetic recording medium varies depending on the width of a magnetic tape or the size and the shape of a head and when it is set in the range of 1.5-2.5 mg/mm , good head touch can be ensured within that range. When the thickness of the entire magnetic tape exceeds 6 μm, a magnetic tape exhibiting good head touch can be attained by applying a conventional standard of stiffness, and the like, but the correlation to the density is indefinite. Consequently, the standard of density being employed here is especially effective for a magnetic tape having total thickness of 6 μm or less to which the conventional standard can not be applied easily.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical recording medium which has a reflection film having high reflectivity and excellent corrosion resistance and is low in cost by forming the reflection film of the optical recording medium provided with the reflection film on a substrate of a thin film having a compsn. formed by incorporating a specific ratio of Al into Cu. SOLUTION: A compact disk (CD-R) 1 which is one form of the optical recording media is formed by laminating a dyestuff film 4 as a recording layer, reflection film 3 and a protective film 5 in this order on the substrate 2 transparent to the light to be used. The reflection film 3 is formed of the thin film having the compsn. contg. 70 to 90atm.% Cu and 1 to 30atm.% Al. This reflection film 3 preferably contains 0.1 to 10atm.% at least one kind of the elements selected from Fe, Ni and Mn in terms of the improvement in the corrosion resistance. The reflection film 3 is formed by a sputtering method, etc., on the dyestuff film 4 and the film thickness thereof is preferably 50 to 150nm.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the magnetic characteristics and electromagnetic transducing characteristic of a magnetic recording medium by supplying an oxide at the time of forming a magnetic film on a base, by arranging an Fe-C material containing Fe and C at a specific atomic ratio, and depositing the Fe and C by scattering the Fe and C of the material on the base. SOLUTION: An Fe-C-O material 5 contains Fe and C at an atomic ratio of 98:2 to 65:35. The material 5 can be an FeX alloy (where, X is C, Si, P, or B). A substrate 3 which has a back coat film of 0.5μm in thickness and is formed by applying paint containing carbon black and a binder resin to a PET film is brought into contact with a cooling can roll 1, while the roll 1 is maintained at 10 deg.C and is run at a speed of 2m/min. Then, a magnetic film is formed on the substrate 3 by filling up a crucible 4 with the Fe-C-O granular material 5 containing Fe and C at an atomic ratio of 85:15 and projecting an electron beam upon the material 5 from an electron gun 8, so that evaporated molten Fe from the material 5 can deposit on the base 3 together with C. The supply quantity of oxygen from a nozzle 7 is adjusted to 30sccm.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic film having excellent magnetic characteristics, corrosion resistance and electromagnetic conversion characteristics by carrying out vapor deposition of a Co-X alloy vapor deposition material having a specified atomic ratio of Co to X while releasing oxygen to form a Co-X-O magnetic film on a supporting body. SOLUTION: A supporting body 3 released from a supply roll 2a is traveled along a cooling can roll 1 and wound on a winding roll 2b. A vapor deposition material 5 is housed in a crucible 4 as the vapor deposition source. The material 5 consists of a Co-X alloy (wherein X is C, Si, P or B). When X is C, the alloy has 98:2 to 65:35 atomic ratio of Co:C. The material 5 is molten by an electron beam from an electron gun 8 to mix Co and X. A shielding plate 6 is used to control the incident angle so that the vaporized particles deposit on the supporting body 3. Further, oxygen is released from an oxygen gas supply nozzle 7 in the opposite direction to the rotating direction of the roll 1. Thus, a Co-X-O magnetic film is formed. Thereby, the obtd. magnetic film has excellent magnetic characteristics, corrosion resistance and electromagnetic conversion characteristics.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately measure the characteristics of tapes by dividing the cylindrical section wall into two goove sections at vertical direction slits, winding reference and sample magnetic tapes and rotating and comparing the measuring results. SOLUTION: Ring shaped grooves 2 are formed in the outer peripheral wall surface of a cylindrical shape section 1a of a rotating drum 1 and a stepped part 3 is formed in the lower section of the groove 2. Moreover, slits 4a and 4b are provided in a vertical direction on the wall of the section 1a and these slits divide the grooves 2 into two groove parts. Then, reference and sample 18 magnetic tapes are wound on the respective groove sections and fixed by fastners 5a, 5b, 6a and 6b. Nozzles 8a and 8b are arranged on the both sides of a magnetic head 7 which is directed to the grooves 2 and clean air blows toward the head. At the same time, the drum 1 is rotated, both magnetic heads are used for the measurements and the results are compared. Thus, no tape replacement is required and tape characteristics are accurately measured.
