    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a multi-component fiber capable of easy production of fine fiber bundles of good yarn divisibility by water treatment, by melt blending each specific (modified)polyvinyl alcohol and polymer followed by spinning. CONSTITUTION:A melt spinning is made using (A) as the dispersion medium, a (modified)polyvinyl alcohol with a saponification degree 50-98mol% satisfying the relationship between saponification degree X mol% and polymerization degree P : logX+logP=3.7-4.3 and (B) as the dispersion component, a melt- spinnable polymer differing in the solubility to solvent from that of the component A (e.g., polypropylene) followed by quenching by e.g., cooling air flow and then winding, thus obtaining the objective multi-component fiber.

    Abstract: A fiber entanglement is provided which is characterized in that it is a three-dimensional entanglement integratedly composed of elastic fibers (A) each being a fine-denier fiber bundle or having a porous fiber structure as seen on a fiber cross section with a number of irregular-shaped pores extending in the fiber axis direction, nonshrinkable, nonelastic fibers (B) and shrinkable, nonelastic fibers (C), that the fibers A are at least partly bonded or fused together at points of contact with one another and bring about a taut condition, that the nonshrinkable, nonelastic fibers B are folded several times over by means of the elastic fibers A and shrinkable, nonelastic fibers C. This fiber entanglement is useful as a base material for leather-like sheet materials.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber having a stable fiber phase by dispersing a specified ratio of a specified super ultrafine polyolefin fiber, etc., parallel to the fiber axis in the polyurethane component mentioned below of a lamination-type multicomponent fiber composed of a thermoplastic polyurethane and a thermoplastic polymer immiscible therewith. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic polyurethane containing 1-15wt.% polyolefin or polystyrene and a thermoplastic polymer (e.g. polyamide) immiscible with the above-mentioned polyurethane are respectively dissolved in different dissolution systems, laminated into a thin layer and then spun to obtain the objective polyurethane-based multi-component fiber containing super ultrafine polyolefin or polystyrene fiber having =500 aspect ratio and dispersed parallel to the fiber axis in the polyurethane component. The objective fiber thus prepared is suitable, e.g. as a fiber for constituting a leather- like sheet-shaped material.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber having a stable fiber phase, capable of continuously spinning for a long hour and suitable for a leather-like sheet material by using a thermoplastic polyurethane as a dispersion medium component and a specified thermoplastic polymer immiscible with the above-mentioned polyurethane as a dispersed component. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic polyurethane preferably having 0.7-1.8 intrinsic viscosity (eta) and containing 35-50wt.% hard segment (in case diol compound, etc., is used as chain-lengthening material) is used as a dispersion medium component 2, and a nonelastic polymer (e.g. 6-nylon) is used as a dispersed component to obtain a substantially continuous ultrafine fiber component 1. In the above- mentioned dispersion medium component, 1-15wt.% high-fluidity polyolefin (e.g. polyethylene) or polystyrene preferably having 10-60g/10min MFR(melt flow rate) value is mixed, and the average diameter and the aspect ratio of the above-mentioned polyolefin or polystyrene as a super ultrafine fiber component 3 are made =500, respectively, thus obtaining the objective fiber.
