Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a steel cord having gaps between strands and good quality by affording a specified permanent set to feed wires, and passing the wires through devices for preventing backflow of twists then subjecting the wires to tentative twisting and second twisting. CONSTITUTION:Feed wires 9 are fed from reels 3, and are passed through permanent setting devices 14 to provide a specified permanent set to the wires. The wires are then passed through devices 15 for preventing backflow of twists so that the backflow of the twists of the wires 9 generated by the rotation of tentative twisting devices 11 from the let-off side is prevented. The wires are then conducted to a tentative twisting device 11, by which the wires are tentatively twisted and are then supplied in succession to a second twister 4. A permanent set is provided to a core wire 18 as well according to need. The twisting is stabilized by the above-mentioned method and the steel cord having improved resistance to fatigue and buckling and quality under low head is obtd.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the lengthwise elasticity with a higher infiltration rate of a rubber material by twisting a plurality of strands in which groups of two twisted raw stands are twisted together with two non-twisted strand bundles to form a steel cord. CONSTITUTION:Two raw strands 4 are S-twisted to form raw strand groups 5 while raw strands 6 with the diameter the same as the raw strand 4 are arranged untwisted to form raw strand bundles 7. The raw strand groups 5 are S- twisted with the raw strand bundles 7 to form a strand 8. Four of the strands 8 thus obtained are Z-twisted to make a steel cord 9. The steel cord 9 thus obtained is excellent in the rubber infiltration rate (rubber infiltration sectional area/rubber infiltrable sectional area X 100), the fatigue resistance and the elasticity modulus as compared with the conventional type.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture a bundle twisted steel cord easily from many strands, by dividing six or more strands into >=2 groups of strands, giving temporary twisting of below normal twisting pitch to the strands and binding them into a bundle and twisting at normal pitches. CONSTITUTION:For instance, twenty eight strands 1 are grouped into seven sets of four strands each, and drawn out from a delivery reel 6. Each strand group is twisted temporarily at below normal twisting pitches by a false twisting device 8. By this way, spiral plastic deformation is given beforehand to the strands 1. Then, these strand groups are bound into a bundle and fed to a puncher twisting machine 19, and twisted at normal twisting pitches of the same direction with false twisting.
