Abstract: A routing technique for supporting an internet protocol IP Multimedia Subsystem IMS (10) Subscriber Locator Function SLF (18) is provided. It is, in part, based on using a user's identification information, e.g. a user's realm, to facilitate the routing of information. This technique enables the implementation of a distributed subscriber location function SLF (18) in an IMS network (10). The subscriber locator function SLF (18) ultimately allows for accommodation of more users through multiple home subscriber service HSS (16-1,16-2,...,16-n) elements.

Abstract: An intelligent-networked public telecommunications system includes an Intern et Connection Interruption (ICI) subscription service that allows a subscriber of a tele- phone line connected to the Internet to receive telephone calls without the need for spe- cial user hardware and user software. In the preferred embodiment, the IN's Service Control Point stores for each customer serviced by the network, an Internet Connection Interruption indicator (a "yes" or "no") indicating whether the customer is currently using the ICI service. When the SCP receives a call for routing to a subscriber and the subscriber's line is busy, the SCP checks its database for the called party' s Internet Connection Interruption indicator. If the Internet Connection Interruption indicator is "yes," meaning that the subscriber has elected to receive calls while connected to the Internet, the SCP instructs the Service Switching Point (SSP) to cause the connection to the ISP to be interrupted to receive the call. The Internet Connection Interruption indi- cator is then set to "no," enabling the call to be completed to the subscriber. In the pre- ferred embodiment, the ICI service is activated when the subscriber dials a predefined prefix prior to dialing the number of the Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Abstract: A telephone calling card (prepaid or postpaid) service system with an intelligent network (IN) for automated call processing novelty associates a Virtual Destination Number (VDN) with each calling card account to significantly broaden service options to calling card account subscribers. As a result, a calling card customer ca n combine calling card service with voice mail service and call forwarding service, which was heretofore not possible. More particularly, the additional services include: the ability of a calling card customer to check a voice mailbox associated with the calling card VDN; the ability of a calling card customer to create and change voice mail greeting options; the ability of a calling card customer to establishing a call forwarding number; and the ability of third parties dialing the VDN to either be connected to a call forwarding number if established, or access the calling card account subscriber's voice mailbox.

Abstract: Communication networks and methods are disclosed for sharing charging information between a home IMS network and a visited IMS network. If a signaling message for a session is received in the visited IMS network, the visited IMS network assigns a visited charging identifier (e.g., ICID), and shares the visited charging identifier with the home IMS network through signaling messages. Similarly, the home IMS network assigns a home charging identifier, and shares the home charging identifier with the visited IMS network through signaling messages. When CDRs are generated in the home IMS network and the visited IMS network, the networks include the home charging identifier and the visited charging identifier in the CDRs so that billing systems may more easily correlate the CDRs from the different IMS networks.

Abstract: An intelligent-networked telecommunication system for audio playing of Electronic Mail ( E-Mail ) messages uses the Service Control Point (SCP) of the Intelligent Network (IN) to route e-mail messages directed to subscribing customers to the customer's telephone number when the e-mail header matches the limitations stored in the subscribing customer's profile. The text of the e-mail message is converted to an audio message which can either be heard by the customer when a call is answered, or stored on an answering machine or in a voice mailbox. The present-inventive Notifying and Hearing Selective E-Mails (NHSE) system and method also includes features such as the subscribing customer being able to specify that audio e-mail messages will be truncated to a specified length, sending a special Caller ID message identifying the e-mail sender and subject of the message when the customer also has Caller ID service, and preceding the transmission of the audio e-mail message with a distinctive ringing pattern, to allow a subscribing customer the option of going off-hook to listen to the message, or allow the call to go directly to voice mail or an answering machine.

Abstract: A public switched telephone system with an intelligent network (IN) for automated call processing is compatible with Call Waiting service. Unlike prior art systems in which a customer placing a call handled by an IN must disable Call Waiting service during an entire transaction (initial call placement, connection to the destination and conversation until the parties "hang up") to avoid non-processing or misprocessing by the IN, a customer using the present invention need only disable Call Waiting when communicating with an Intelligent Peripheral during the initial call placement. The system automatically restores Call Waiting after the call has been routed so that the feature is available during a telephone conversation.
