    Abstract: For use with a semiconductor switch that exhibits a temperature-dependent electrical characteristic and a current sense circuit that employs the characteristic of the switch to derive a switch current signal, a temperature compensation circuit, method of operation thereof and controller employing the same. In one embodiment, the circuit includes: (1) an electrical component, locatable in thermal communication with the switch and having a temperature-dependent electrical characteristic that bears an inverse relationship to the characteristic of the switch, that generates an intermediate signal based on an actual temperature of the switch and (2) a signal conditioning circuit, coupled to the electrical component, that scales the intermediate signal to yield a compensation signal that counteracts temperature-dependent variations in the switch current signal.

    Abstract: For use with a boost converter having first, second and third input inductors (L a , L b , L c ), a switching network includes a first switch (S1) coupled between corresponding rails of the boost converter. The switching network also includes first, second and third L-C resonant networks (L1-L3, C a , C b , C c ) wye-coupled to a common node and coupled to the first, second and third input inductors, respectively. The first switch and the first, second and third L-C resonant networks cooperate to create resonant voltages across, and induce phase currents through, the first, second and third input inductors to reduce input current THD associated with the boost converter.

    Abstract: Inductors (La,Lb,Lc) are coupled to the three phase inputs. Two switches (S1,S2) are coupled between the rails (R1,R2) of the output. Three capacitors (Ca,Cb,Cc) are star- connected to the three phase inputs, with the star-point connected to the node between the switches. A rectifier (120) with diodes (D1- D6) is inserted between the inductors and the switches. An output capacitor (Co) is coupled across the switches. The phase inputs are supplied through an electromagnetic-interference filter. The inductors operate in discontinuous condition mode. A regulation circuit controls the switches. Each switch conducts for a duty cycle of about 50%. The switches cooperate progressively in employing the voltage across the rails, less than that across the capacitors, to discharge current through the inductors and reduce input-current-total harmonic distortion on all phase inputs. An independent claim is included for a boost converting method.

    Abstract: A boost converter having multiple L-C branches and a method of operating the same. The boost converter includes first, second and third phase inputs and an output. In one embodiment, the boost converter includes first and second switches coupled between corresponding rails of the output. The boost converter also includes first, second and third capacitors that form first, second and third L-C series branches, respectively, with a first inductor. The first, second and third L-C series branches are coupled between the first, second and third phase inputs, respectively, and a node between the first and second switches. The first and second switches cooperate progressively to employ a voltage across the rails less a voltage across the first, second and third capacitors to discharge currents through the first inductor and thereby reduce input current total harmonic distortion (THD) on all three of the phase inputs.

In one embodiment, the switching network includes first and second switches coupled between corresponding rails of the boost converter. The switching network also includes first, second and third L-C resonant networks wye-coupled to a node located between the first and second switches and coupled to the first, second and third input inductors, respectively. The first and second switches and the first, second and third L-C resonant networks cooperate to create resonant voltages across, and induce phase currents through, the first, second and third input inductors to reduce input current THD associated with the boost converter.
