    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flexible optical circuit which includes optical fibers mounted on a flexible porous substrate and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: Optical fibers 45 and a flexible porous substrate 35 are sealed with a protection sealing material 49. The optical fibers can be positioned between two porous substrates and then the optical fibers and both the porous substrates are sealed with the sealing material. The method for forming the optical circuit includes a step for supplying the flexible substrates having top and reverse surfaces, a step for adhering the optical fibers to the top surface of the flexible optical porous substrate, and a step for applying the sealing material to the optical fibers and flexible porous substrates. The sealing material can be applied to the optical circuit by coating the optical fibers and porous substrates by spraying or dipping the optical circuit in a bath of the sealing material.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a miniaturized multifiber connector having an optical ferrule having an excellent space effect by housing a multifiber ferrule in a front part of a housing, energizing the multifiber ferrule outward from the shaft direction by a spring member, and providing an end cap for holding the spring member in a housing body. SOLUTION: An optical connector is provided with a multifiber ferrule 110 for terminating plural optical fibers, the first end and the second end and a shaft directional passage 124 extending between these first end 120 and second end 122, and is provided with a housing 104 for housing the multifiber ferrule 110 on the first end. A spring member 108 for energizing the multifiber ferrule 110 outward from the shaft direction and interacting with the multifiber ferrule is arranged in the shaft directional passage 124. The housing 104 is provided with an end cap 106 for interacting with an end part of a spring member 108 on the opposite side of the multifiber ferrule 110 on the second side 122.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber connector capable of more securely joining optical fibers to each other and supporting members of the connector to each other by improving the mutual connection of the optical fibers. SOLUTION: The improved optical fiber connector which supports the arrangement of the optical fiber in it has the first and second supporting members 100. The respective supporting members have parallel arrangement of V-grooves 102 on the first surfaces and at least one piece of side part regions 104. The side part regions 104 of the supporting members are nearly plane and have irregular surfaces for intensifying the joining between the supporting members. The irregular surfaces of the side part regions are joined at the circumferences of the arrangement of the optical fibers by an adhesive epoxy resin. The connector and its connecting technique make it possible efficiently and securely join the optical fibers by improving the crossconnection of the optical fibers and using the supporting members having the irregular planes formed in the side part regions.

    Abstract: A receptacle-like or plug-like optical connector has a body with a rear end and an end face that is opposite from and forward of the rear end. A longitudina l direction is defined between the rear end and the end face, and the end face extends generally perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. The end face has opposite first and second edges, and opposite third and fourth edges that extend between the first and second edges in a lateral direction. A plurality of arrays of optical terminuses ar e positioned at the end face and, and each array extends in the lateral direction across the end face. The optical connector includes one or more relatively large alignment members. A first alignment member is proximate to the third edge of the end face and extends in the longitudinal direction and a second alignment member is proximate to the fourth edge of the end face and extends in the longitudinal direction. The body of the optical connector can be a stack of mufti-fiber connectors, and the optical connecto r can further include optical fiber ribbons that are respectively held by the connectors.
