Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a coupling with a normal optical fiber in a normal ferrule so as to support increasing bandwidth by forming an axially extending hole wherein an optical fiber is arranged at a position offset radially from the axis of symmetry of a ferrule body. SOLUTION: A multimode optical fiber is arranged in a hole 82 which extends axially passing the center of a multimode ferrule 72. A single-mode optical fiber is arranged in a hole 88 which extends axially passing through the single- mode ferrule 74. The hole 88 is formed in the ferrule 74 at a position slightly offset from the true center (center axis 83) of the ferrule 74. When the ferrule 74 is aligned with the ferrule 72, the single-mode optical fiber is slightly offset from the multimode optical fiber to establish an offset launch state.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit simple and inexpensive production and assembly and to permit perfect shuffle intersection connection with the min. space and intricacy by orienting the first surface of an optical harness at a regulated angle to the second surface and constituting a holding mechanism so as to transfer optical fibers from a first portion to a second portion and to maintain this direction. SOLUTION: The optical harness 10 transfers the rows of the plural fibers 17 and 19 arranged toward the first section 12 to plural columns of the fibers 21, 23 and 25 arranged toward a second section 24. The optical harness has M pieces of optical fiber row cables 16 arranged toward this first section 12 and N pieces of optical fiber column cables 18 arranged toward the second section 14. A holding and route instructing mechanism 20 is arranged between the first section 12 and the second section 14 to array the optical fiber row cables 16 so as to maintain the same in the preferably first surface direction and the optical fiber column cables 18 in the preferable second surface direction.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adaptor securing precise alignment between multi-fiber connectors, and its preparing method. SOLUTION: An alignment adaptor 68 being a planar plate form, nearly a plane, having a central opening receiving the connector, and used together with the multi-fiber connector, contains a pair of alignment holes 72 arranged at a prescribed spatial relation with fibers held in the multi-fiber connector on the side that the planar plate opposes to the central opening. When the connector is received through the central opening of the alignment adaptor 68, the alignment holes 72 of the alignment adaptor 68 are aligned precisely with the alignment holes 72 formed on the connector.

The first plane where each optical fiber column cable is arranged is essentially parallel to other first planes where optical fiber column cables are arrayed. Each optical fiber row cable is arranged on the second plane essentially parallel to other second planes where each of other optical fiber row cables is arranged.

SOLUTION: An optical communication system includes a device and a method in which optical signals, that pass the device, are displaced in a lateral direction or sterred. The system includes a transmitting device 22, which transmits the optical signals, a receiving device 24, which receives the signals, and at least one optical guiding element 10. The element 10 is a transmission medium to capture and transmit optical information by having tip part shapes. For example, a portion of light beams, which propagate in a first direction and enter into a first tip part 12, are practically redirected along a transmission axis. Moreover, the light beams which propagate along the axis outside a second tip part 14, are redirected to a second direction that is displaced in a lateral direction from the first direction.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an optical fiber optical connection system small-sized by forming a ferrule stack body by arranging a 2nd support member on a 1st support member and holding the individual fibers of a multifiber ribbon in the V-shaped grooves of the 1st and 2nd support members. SOLUTION: A stackable multifiber ferrule 10 has two external support members 12 between which an internal support member 14 is sandwiched. The support members 12 and 14 has the parallel V-shaped grooves which hold the optical fibers of a multifiber ribbon 16 mutually at intervals and are put together so that the V-shaped grooves of the adjacent support members meet each other. Alignment pinholes 20 formed of grooves for alignment pin in the support members 12 and 14 are formed for alternate arrays of the optical fibers. The grooves for alignment pin are formed on only one surface, so the internal support member 14 can be made thin.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber connecting system and its device capable of executing a connecting operation on a job site accurately and consistently. The second end is provided with at least one feature which may increase the opening formed by the housing member of the second end of the connector, thereby facilitating the termination of the waveguide terminating in the first end, that is, the termination of the optical fiber or its lines in the second end to be optically connected to the optical fiber.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the density of internal connection while meeting the standard for interfaces and to enable high-efficiency optical connection by forming holes for aligning pins in the first interfaces by one of the first grooves for the aligning pins of first and second outer supporting members and one of the second and third grooves for the aligning pins of the inner supporting members. SOLUTION: This ferrule 10 has the two supporting members 12 holding the same inside supporting members 14. The supporting members 12 and 14 have the parallel V-shaped grooves for exactly parting the optical fibers of multifiber ribbons 16 from each other and aligning and holding these optical fibers and mate the V-shaped grooves of the adjacent supporting members to as to match these members with each other. The holes 20 for the aligning pins are formed in every other array at the interfaces 75 formed by the grooves for the aligning pins within the supporting members 12 and 14. According to such constitution, the ferrule can be formed thin and, therefore, the height over the entire part of the ferrule 10, i.e., the thickness thereof may be reduced and the interconnecting density of the entire part may be increased.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To nearly double the manufacture throughput by altering the design of a connector main body so that two connectors can be formed for each cavity. SOLUTION: The connector has the connector main body having a rear surface where optical fibers are stored and a front coupling surface where end parts of the optical fibers art exposed for optical transmission to and from the corresponding optical fibers of an opposite side connector. For the manufacture, molds 40 and 42 are prepared which have mold cavities constituted so that a couple of connector main bodies joined on the rear surfaces are formed as an integrated molding part. The integrated molding part is formed by using those molds 40 and 42. The integrated molding part is cut and separated into a couple connector main bodies along a plane crossing the length of the integrated molding part. The rear surfaces of the connector main bodies are formed respectively by the cutting. Further, a fiber storage bore which extends from the front coupling surface to the front wall of the cavity through the main body is formed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical uniform spacing assembly for the purpose of lining up plural multi-pitch optical fibers into a linear optical fiber array of a uniform pitch. SOLUTION: The spacing assembly includes an organizer body having a vertically extending slot. A part of the slot has a width wide enough for only one optical fiber to pass, and has a depth just deep enough for plural multi-pitch optical fibers to be lined up in a linear array of a uniform pitch. The assembly is small-sized and easy to be assembled. In addition, the spacing assembly connects to the front end of the organizer, including a transfer assembly that sets in auxiliary array for the multi-pitch optical fiber array in advance of the arraying inside the organizer body. Moreover, an optical device such as a multi-fiber optical connector is connected to the rear end of the organizer body. The multi-fiber connector properly includes, for example, an MT connector, an MA connector or an LMC connector.
