    Abstract: A universal modular optical fiber buildout (5) for use in coupling a first optical fiber cable to a second optical fiber cable is disclosed. The universal buildout includes a buildout base (10) formed about a longitudinal axis (12), and a buildout cap (32) for being received within the base (10). The buildout base (10) is constructed and arranged to receive the first optical fiber cable at a first end (14) thereof, and any one of a plurality of the different types of buildout caps (32) at the second end (15) thereof. In similar fashion, the buildout cap (32) is constructed and arranged to receive the second optical fiber cable at a first end (14) thereof, and is constructed and arranged to be received within a second end (15) of any one of a plurality of the different types of buildout bases. The buildout cap (32) is also provided with a latching arrangement (43) for securing the cap to the base (10), the latching arrangement (43) being comprised of two opposed resilient flanges (44,45) sized and shaped to be received within the second end (15) of the base (10), each flange (44,45) having at least one locking tab (25,47) formed as a part thereof. The buildout base (10) has at least two opposed locking tabs (25,47) constructed and arranged to cooperate with a respective one of the at least one locking tab (25,47) of the two flanges (44,45) so that the buildout cap (32) is received in the buildout base (10) in a snap-fit.

The buildout base (10) has at least two opposed locking tabs (25,47) constructed and arranged to cooperate with a respective one of the at least one locking tab (25,47) of the two flanges (44,45) so that the buildout cap (32) is received in the buildout base (10) in a snap-fit.

    Abstract: A connector adapter (13) and dust cover (31) therefor are pivotably connected by means of a pivot pin (19) on the adapter and pivot arms on the dust cover whose distal ends engage the pivot pin. The pivot pin has a cam member (27) located intermediate its ends, and the dust cover has a spring arm (51) between the pivot arms whose distal end engages the cam member. In the closed position, the distal end of the spring arm engages the cam below its high point. In the fully open position, the distal end of the spring arm engages the cam beyond its high point. In both positions, the spring arm bears against the cam to resist dislodgment of the dust cover from either position.
