Abstract: 8748. Meyer, H. W. April 11. Automatic-feed weighers. - Relates to automatic scales for liquids, grain, and the like, especially for, and described as applied to, thick liquids such as molasses. A tipping-vessel a, Figs. 1 and 2, divided into compartments a , a , is pivoted in the U- shaped lever b which is supported on pins b . Pins b on the outside of the lever b engage large eyes b on the frame, and allow the lever to oscillate slightly so that a pin on the vessel a may clear a stop r when ready for tipping. Each end of the receptacle a has an extension d , d , extending pins e , e carrying rollers f , f and pins g , g on the sides opposite to the roller-pins, A pivoted and adjustably-weighted lever h is engaged by the pins e , e as the vessel tips, thus braking the vessel. As shown, the pin e lifts the lever in sliding beneath it until the pin reaches a projection h on the lever to stop the tipping movement. The lever then sinks down, and the curved edge of the projection h , acting with a second curved projection h upon the pin e , moves the vessel back a small distance, this action preventing shock both to the vessel and the lever. An air or liquid dash-pot brake i may also be provided. The vessel k, in which the liquid to be weighed is stored, has a discharge tube k which is regulated automatically from the vessel a. A fixed shaft m has a screwthreaded part at each end carrying a tube m , to which is fixed a disk o, having an opening o corresponding to the tube k , and a flanged edge o fitting a groove in the tube. When the tube is rotated, the opening o and tube are brought into or out of alinement, the disk being at the same time raised from the casing to reduce friction. A second small opening o in the disk comes opposite the tube k , when the vessel a is nearly full, a pivoted plate p with a corresponding opening p serving to regulate this opening. The tube m carries a bell-crank lever q , q , the arm q being weighted, and the longer arm q being acted upon by the rollers f , f . In Figs. 1 and 2, the parts are shown in the position in which the vessel a is filling through the large opening o'. When the filling is nearly completed, the extension d causes the vessel to tip slightly to the left, Fig. 2, the pin g engaging the fixed projection r. The roller f slides beneath and clear of the arm q of the bell-crank lever, the disk being then rotated by the weighted arm q to the position shown in Fig. 7 so that the opening o is closed, but the small opening o is open, and not closed as in Fig. 7. The liquid then slowly fills the vessel a , the vessel sinks against the action of the weight b , and the pin g clears the projection r and allows the vessel to tip, the end a then coming uppermost. A projection on the vessel (not shown) moves the slide p to close the opening o , as shown in Fig. 7, the pin f acts upon the lever q' and brings the disk o back to its original position, and the lever h brakes the vessel as previously described. The rotation of the lever q causes the slide p to strike a projection p on the tube casing and thus bring the openings o , p into line for future action. Projections p , p , o on the disk o limit its rotation. A counting- apparatus z is actuated by means of the lever z and pins z , z À
