Abstract: 16,368. Meyer, H. W. Aug. 1. Automatic-feed weighers; liquid-weighers; feeding - devices. - A vertically - guided slide - valve b with a rectangular discharge opening b carries a U-shaped stop d, Figs. 1 and 3, which is cut away to form an inclined part d' and a shoulder d'. Mounted near the valve is a shaft f bearing a drum consisting of parts f , f and a projection f , a spring f tending to turn the whole in a counterclockwise direction. A stop g, having an inclined part g and an horizontal part g , is arranged on the upper part of the valve. In the position shown in Fig. 1, the valve is in its lowermost position with the feed cut off, but is drawn upwards by any convenient device attached to a bracket c until the projection f snaps beneath the shoulder d'. In this position, the valve orifice b registers with an orifice a in the supply pipe, and the feed is fully open. When the receptacle is nearly fully loaded, it rotates slightly and tilts a lever h to the left, which, by turning the shaft f against the spring f , disengages the projection f and thus allows the valve b to sink under its own weight until the shoulder g comes against the stop f . The valve opening is then very small, and, on the correct weight being reached, the receptacle sinks and disengages the lever h in known manner. The shaft f then trips backs into the position shown in Fig. 1, and so permits the valve to complete the cut-off. To hold the valve edges parallel with the edges of the orifice a', a shaft k at the other side of the valve is connected by links h , k , k to the shaft f, and is provided with a drum integral with an eccentrically-arranged part m and a projection m , Fig. 3. These latter parts engage at the proper times with corresponding projections on the valve, and thus maintain a parallel discharge opening. To prevent jamming of the slide, the valve seat a , Fig. 3, does not run exactly parallel to the bottom of the dovetail pieces b , so that the upper part of the slide does not bear tightly on its seat.

Abstract: 4897. Meyer, H. W. Feb. 27. Automatic-feed weighers.-Relates to the type of machine described in Specification 16,368/08, in which a slight rotary movement of the weighing-receptacle 5 operates a lever 7 and partly closes the feed-valve 4, and, when the full weight has been supplied, the sinking of the receptacle causes the final cut-off. The receptacle sinks into trunnion bearings 9 and rotates in an anti-clockwise direction to discharge the contents. The present invention consists in providing a device for retaining the receptacle in an inverted position sufficiently long to enable the contents to discharge. During rotation, a pin 10 on the receptacle enters the groove 11 in a U-shaped lever 12, and is retained between a jaw 13 thereon and a spring-pressed bent lever 14, connected thereto by a pivoted link 23. The lever 12 is thereby raised into the position shown, but gradually sinks to its original position, allowing the pin 10 to escape and the receptacle to complete its rotation into the filling position again. The sinking of the lever 12 is retarded by a propeller 16 driven bv a train of wheels and a fixed sector 28. The vibration produced by the shock of the pin 10 against the pivoted lever 14 is damped by a spring 20.

Abstract: 17,426. Meyer, H. W. July 27. Automatic - feed weighers. - A doublechambered and rotatable weighing - receptacle for liquids has the division wall g arranged diagonally for a part or the whole of the length of the receptacle, the pouring-out edges c', d' being opposite the lowest edges of the division wall. Pockets h , k are arranged near the pouring-edges to balance the excess weight of liquid at the opposite side of the receptacle.
