    Abstract: Termination assemblies for terminating high-frequency data signal transmission lines include housings with one or more cavities that receive ends of the transmission line therein. The transmission line typically includes a dielectric body and a plurality of conductive elements disposed thereon, with the plurality of conductive elements being arranged in pairs for differential signal transmission. The termination assemblies, in one embodiment include hollow end caps that are formed from a dielectric and which have one or more conductive contacts or plated surfaces disposed on or within the cavity so that they will frictionally mate with the conductive traces on the transmission line. In another embodiment, a connector housing is provided with a center slot and a plurality of dual loop contacts to provide redundant circuit paths and low inductance to the termination assembly. A coupling element may be utilized in the slot to achieve a desired level of coupling between the termination contacts.

    Abstract: A circuit card connector (20) utilizes flexible circuitry (64) and a card-engagement assembly (50) which applies a normal force to the contact pads (34) of the circuit card (30). The connector includes two opposing connector end portions (40) and a card-engagement assembly (50) extending therebetween, the card-engagement assembly (50) including two opposing spring members (53) which are seated upon a pair of fulcrums. The spring members (53) are spaced apart from each other on opposite sides of a centerline of a card-receiving slot (80) of the connector (20). The spring members (53) have lower leg portions (55) and upper contact arm portions (57). The leg portions (55) of the spring members (153) project into the card-receiving slot (80) such that an insertion edge (36) of the circuit card (30) will impinge thereupon and cause them to spread apart, which in turn, will cause the contact arm portions (57) of the spring members (53) to rotate around their associated fulcrums so that the contact arm portions (57) will contact and exert a normal force upon contact pads (34) located on opposing sides of the circuit card (30) near the circuit card insertion edge (36).

    Abstract: A carrier web (80) of sheet metal material joining stamped and formed components (24) of an electrical connector is disclosed. The component is carried through the stamping and forming process by the carrier web of the sheet metal material. The component is stamped and formed from the material such that at least a portion (48, 50, 58, 60) of the component projects from one side of the original plane of the sheet metal material. The carrier web is formed into a three-dimensional configuration (90, 102) to reduce the spacing between adjacent components. A portion of the web may project a sufficient distance from the one side of the original plane of the sheet metal material to protect the projecting portion of the component during subsequent manufacturing operations on the component. A retaining structure (120, 122, 124) may also be provided to retain the components at a predetermined spacing on the carrier web. A method of manufacturing the carrier web is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A shielded electrical connector assembly which includes an insulating housing (12a, 12b) having a front mating end and a rear conductor receiving end. A stamped and formed metal shield (14a, 14b) surrounds at least the rear conductor receiving end of the insulating housing. The shield is formed by a pair of interengaging shield halves (14a, 14b). Each shield half has a semicylindrical portion (84) projecting from the rear end thereof and combining with the other shield half to form a cable crimping barrel. The barrel is formed by metal of each shield half being folded rearwardly from a front end (90) thereof, through an opening (91) in the rear end thereof, and thereby being integral with the remainder of the respective shield half. The insulating housing is formed by two interengaging housing halves (12a, 12b) defining a conductor receiving opening at the rear conductor receiving end of the housing. Interengaging cantilevered support beams (66a, 66b) are provided on the housing halves on opposite sides of the opening to provide lateral support for a cable and interengaging support for the housing halves themselves.

    Abstract: A processor mounted to a circuit board is provided with regulated voltage through lower-inductance circuit board traces by mounting a voltage regulator module for the processor, on the side of the circuit opposite to the processor. Current from the voltage regulator is provided to the processor by way of one or more conductors between the regulator and processor that extend through the circuit board from one side to the other. Inductance attributable to lead length is reduced by locating the voltage regulator close to its load. Circuit board space on the processor side of the circuit board is increased by moving the voltage regulator to the opposite side.
