Abstract: PURPOSE:To realize a cold cathode discharge tube having low discharging voltage and long service life, by employing high melting point material having low work function and low abrasion against ion shock under the state where the characteristics of said material can be exhibited sufficiently. CONSTITUTION:A cathode 3 is constructed by forming an amorphous emitter 9 composed of complex metal oxide (BaO.SrO) of barium oxide and strontium oxide at the portion of a cathode substrate 8 made of Ni to be utilized for discharge or the crossing section with an anode 5. The emitter layer 9 is formed by mixing 1.65wt% of barium butyric acid, 1.17wt% of strontium propionic acid, 94.18wt% of butyl alcohol and 3wt% of cetyl alcohol into liquid, then coating the mixture onto the cathode substrate 8 thereafter thermally dissolving the alkoxide of barium and strontium to produce a complex metal oxide layer of amorphous barium oxide and strontium oxide which is secured on the surface of the cathode substrate 8.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To allow a panel to be driven at a low voltage and to improve its life by a method wherein a material with the high melting point is permitted to stick to the substrate or cathode base of a panel for displaying a d.c. gas discharge by means of plasma irradiation, using a rare gas discharge. CONSTITUTION:By the irradiation of plasma using a rare gas discharge or the discharge of a mixture of a rare gas and H2 and/or N2, a material with the high melting point is allowed to stick to the substrate or cathode base of a panel for displaying a d.c. gas discharge. As the material having the high melting point, use can be made of a metal and/or a metallic compound which is not readily subjected to abrasion as the result of the collision of ions, provided with a smaller work function, suitable for the cathode, and gifted with the high melting point.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify the structure of a display tube and to enable a large picture to be displayed, by forming in a crossed pattern a number of longitudinal parallel grooves and a number of transverse parallel grooves in a rear plate of the tube and disposing anode and cathode electrodes respectively in said longitudinal and transverse grooves. CONSTITUTION:An outer housing of a vacuum vessel for a display tube 1 consists of a front transparent plate 9 and a rear plate 10. In one of the faces of the rear plate 10 which face is in face to face relation or in contact with the front plate 9, longitudinal grooves 11 and transverse grooves 12, each defining a rectangular cross-section, are formed crossing each other. Either anode electrodes 2 or cathode electrodes 6 are disposed in the longitudinal grooves 11, whereas in the transverse grooves 12 either cathode electrodes 6 or anode electrodes 2 are arranged. At the portions where each of the cathode electrodes 6 intersects with each of the anode electrodes 2, that is, where display discharge cells are constructed, small holes are formed.

CONSTITUTION:The spacer 4 and the cathode spool 5 are air-tightly sealed between the front base plate 2 of glass, etc., and the base plate 3, and then gas, e.g., neon, etc., is filled in the space. And, in the groove 18 of the cathode spool 5, a cathode is formed by rolling the metal wires A, B, and C in parallel, and the cathode is subjected to a multiphase driving, causing discharge between it and the anode 7 provided to the front base plate 2 to move gradually. In addition, the fluorescent substance 11 is coated between the cathode and the anode 7, and if different colors of fluorescent substances 11 are used, informations are assorted by color and can be displayed on one display panel.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To stabilize the discharge work of a gas-discharge display device, and prevent any reduction of the luminance by connecting cells in groups so that the difference in discharge initiation voltage of discharge cells caused according to coupling capacity sent from an ion source becomes larger than the difference in discharge initiation voltage of discharge cells caused during the break down discharge. CONSTITUTION:Display dicharge cells 3 are arranged in matrix form at a pitch of 1mm. so that five cells 3 are arranged lengthwise and seven cells 3 are arranged sideways si as to constitute a character format. A display screen is constituted byarraging 32 thus constituted character formats sideways. In this example, only when the distance between scanning electrodes becomes above 20mm., the difference in discharge initiation voltage of discharge cells caused according to the coupling capacity sent from an ion source (the discharge cells of the discharge carried out before) becomes larger than the difference in discharge initiation voltage of discharge cells during break down condition. As a result, since the pitch of the cells 3 is 1mm., the discharge operation can be stabilized by connecting every above 20 scanning electrodes together, and adjusting the driving phase to above 20.
