Abstract: A plate-shaped display device of the gas-discharge type has an anode and a cathode, which cathode has a specific form for the purpose of improving the discharge in an airtight chamber which is formed by two substrates. A gas, which contains a gas which emits ultraviolet radiation, such as for example Xe and Kr, and a fluorescent (luminescent) material for emitting light are jointly inserted into the airtight chamber. As a result of the shape of the cathode, there is more discharge than in the case of devices according to the state of the art. A stronger ultraviolet emission as a result of the discharge excites the fluorescent material to generate a visible radiation. The brightness of the device is increased thereby. Since the cathode is coated with an emitter material which is incapable of absorbing the gas which emits the ultraviolet radiation, what is achieved is that not only is the discharge not impeded by the reduction of the gas which emits the ultraviolet radiation, but also the colour of the visible radiation can be maintained in a stable manner.

SOLUTION: In this gas discharge tube, a front board 14 with a transparent electrode 28 placed on its whole surface and a back board 12 with a cathode 20 like a ridge between rice fields placed on its whole surface are placed face to face with a designated space kept between the electrodes on each board, a discharge cell 30 is formed for every intersecting part of the transparent electrode 28 and the cathode 20 like a ridge between rice fields, an airtight container 16 is formed by sealing peripheries of the both electrodes, discharge gas containing Xe and phosphor 24 are filled in the airtight container 16 and the cathode 20 like a ridge between rice fields is made of emitter material with YB4 and BaAl2 O4 mixed.

SOLUTION: Instead of direct deposition of a filter paste 46 to the surfaces of transparent anodes 24, the filter paste 46 is applied in a prescribed pattern to two positions between transparent anodes 24 belonging to respective display regions 39 on the opposed face 14a of the front substrate and based on the fluidity of the filter paste 46 itself, respective filter paste 46 patterns are spread to a part of the surface of each transparent anode 24 from one side nearer to the respective transparent anodes 24 arranged in both sides.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas discharge display panel in which sufficiently high brightness can be attained, and reliability is high even if a construction is simple and manufacturing is easy. SOLUTION: A transparent anode 28 is formed on the bottom face of a confronting arranged front face substrate 14, and a cathode extraction pattern 18 on a back face substrate 12 top face, ridge-like cathodes 20 continuing along the cathode extraction pattern 18, and barrier ribs 22 having base portions 22a, first partition walls 22b, second partition walls 22c, and recessed spaces 22d are formed. The peripheral edges of both substrates are airtightly sealed so as to form an envelope 16, and a phosphor 24 and ultraviolet ray radiation gas are filled inside so as to manufacture a gas discharge display panel 10. Parts of ridge-like cathode tips 20b protrude in the recessed spaces 22d, the base end portions 20a are embedded in the base portions 22a, the ridge-like cathode tip portions 20b are formed into approximately semicircular curved faces in cross sections, and the recessed spaces 22d are formed into approximately funnel shapes in cross sections.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a gas discharge display panel, by which the heights of all the barrier ribs can be almost uniformalized, whereby the whole discharge cells can be sufficiently partitioned. CONSTITUTION:The electrode formation surface of a front substrate 12 consisting of a transparent insulated material, on which a plurality of transparent positive electrodes 20 are formed, and the electrode formation surface of a back substrate 14 consisting of an insulated material on which a plurality of negative electrodes 22 are formed, are opposed to one another so that the electrodes of the substrates cross with one another at a specific interval, and a discharge cell 24 is formed on each part at which both electrodes cross with one another, while barrier ribs 30 for partitioning respective discharge cells 24 are formed on the opposed surface 12a of the front substrate. The peripheries of both substrates 12, 14 are sealed airtight through a sealing material 16, to make an envelope 18, and discharging gas is filled in the envelope 18, to form a gas discharge display panel 10. Dummy barriers 32, which are formed of the same material as that of each barrier rib 30, and which are formed simultaneously in the same process, are arranged.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a gas discharge display panel, in which an electrode arranged outside of an envelope is not easily disconnected. CONSTITUTION:A front substrate 12 consisting of a transparent insulated material, on which a plurality of transparent positive electrodes 20 are formed, and a back substrate 14 consisting of an insulated material on which a plurality of negative electrodes 22 are formed, are superimposed on one another so that the electrodes of the substrates cross with one another at a specific interval, and a discharge cell 24 is formed on each part at which the both electrodes cross with one another. The peripheries of both substrates are sealed airtight through a sealing material 16 consisting of glass of low melting point, to make an envelope 18, and discharging gas is filled in the envelope 18, while the positive electrode 20 is guided to the outside of the envelope 18. A positive electrode end part 20a is connected to an external terminal 26, to form a gas discharge display panel 10. A protective coating 32 consisting of the same material as the sealing material 16 is provided on the surface of the positive electrode 20 provided on the outside of the envelope 18.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make the images displayed by a gas discharge display panel high quality and fine without deteriorating insulation properties among the display cells. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of stripe-like cathodes 3 are formed on a back side substrate 2 made of an insulator and the surfaces are coated to form emitter layers 4. First barrier ribs 5 are formed between neighboring cathodes 3 coated with the emitter layers 4, so as to be flush with the upper faces of the emitter layers 4. On the emitter layers 4 and the first barrier ribs 5, second barrier ribs 6 having matrix shape and formed by crossing a plurality of lines of barrier ribs made of an insulator in different directions are so put as to match the lines of the barrier ribs 6a in one direction with the upper faces of the first barrier ribs 5. A plurality of anodes 8 are formed on a front side substrate made of an insulator and both substrates are set to face each other in the way the cathodes 3 and the anodes 8 cross each other while having the discharging space between them and thus discharge cells are formed at the crossing parts.
