    Abstract: A network architecture is disclosed with support for location services (LCS). A radio access network (RAN) node receives a registration request from a user equipment (UE), indicating that the UE supports a ranging based location service session. The RAN node farther receives an internal identifier (ID) for identifying information associated with the UE in communication between the RAN node and a core network during the ranging based location service session. The RAN node allocates radio resources to the UE for performing a ranging operation involving a plurality of devices including the UE, and associates the radio resources with the internal ID of the UE for identifying location results. Then the RAN node informs the UE of the radio resources allocated for the ranging operation.

    Abstract: The disclosure provides a mechanism where a user equipment (UE) may communicate with a neighbor UE of the UE's neighbor UE by utilizing the UE's neighbor UE as a relay for the communication between the UE and the neighbor UE of the UE's neighbor UE. In an aspect, the first UE receives a discovery message from a second UE, the discovery message including information about 1-hop neighbor UEs of the second UE. The first UE determines to communicate with a third UE based on the discovery message, the third UE being one of the 1-hop neighbor UEs of the second UE. The first UE requests the second UE to operate as a relay for communication between the first UE and the third UE. The first UE communicates with the third UE through the second UE.

    Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. A method for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) includes configuring a relay selection rule; receiving at least one discovery message from each of a plurality of proximity services (ProSe) relay candidates providing access to a network; evaluating the received discovery messages with respect to the relay selection rule; selecting a first ProSe relay candidate from the plurality of ProSe relay candidates based at least in part on the evaluating; and connecting to the network via the first ProSe relay candidate. A method for wireless communication at a ProSe relay candidate includes receiving, from a network, a ProSe Relay Indication (PRI); broadcasting at least one discovery message that includes the PRI; and receiving a relay connection request from a UE based at least in part on a compliance of the at least one discovery message with a relay selection rule of the UE.

    Abstract: A novel key management approach is provided for securing communication handoffs between an access terminal and two access points. As an access terminal moves from a current access point to a new access point, the access terminal sends a short handoff request to the new access point. The short handoff request may include the access terminal ID; it does not include the access point ID. The new access point may then send its identifier and the access terminal's identifier to the authenticator. Using a previously generated master transient key, the access point identifier and the access terminal identifier, an authenticator may generate a master session key. The master session key may then be sent to the access point by the authenticator. The access terminal independently generates the same new security key with which it can securely communicate with the new access point.
