Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in which a user equipment (UE) may identify one or more candidate beams that have a better channel metric than a serving beam. The UE may initiate a beam switch measurement counter, and perform one or more measurements on the identified candidate beams. In the event that one of the candidate beams is better than the serving beam for each measurement of the one or more measurements, the UE may perform a beam switch procedure to switch from the serving beam to the candidate beam.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some examples, a base station and a user equipment (UE) may utilize multi-port reference signals to determine a beam pair for rank-2 transmissions. For example, a UE may receive a set of multi-port reference signals, where each multi-port reference signal of the set corresponds to a unique beam pair and is received via two ports associated with two different polarizations. The UE may determine a spectral efficiency estimation for each multi-port reference signal of the set, select a beam pair associated with a multi-port reference signal with the highest determined spectral efficiency estimation of the set, and transmit an indication of the selected beam pair to the base station. Therefore, the UE and the base station may communicate using a beam pair which maximizes the spectral efficiency and rate of rank-2 transmissions.

Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may estimate, for each beam at one or more beam levels on one or more antenna panels, an application layer throughput based at least in part on a reference signal received power measurement, wherein the one or more beam levels are each associated with a number of antenna elements. The UE may generate a set of candidate beams that includes, at each of the one or more beam levels, one or more beams for which the respective estimated application layer throughput satisfies an application layer throughput requirement. The UE may select, from the set of candidate beams, a serving beam for which the estimated application layer throughput satisfies the application layer throughput requirement with a fewest number of antenna elements. Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to a user equipment (UE) configured to schedule resource management procedures including measurements and tracking loop procedures. In some examples, the UE includes at least one antenna pair and two or more receivers. The UE may be configured to determine a plurality of combinations of antenna pairs and component carriers, where each component carrier is associated with a particular frequency. The UE may further be configured to schedule measurements/tracking loop procedures to available receivers first and utilize a selection algorithm to select combinations of antenna pairs and component carriers and map the selected combinations to the remaining of the available receivers to perform tracking loop procedures. Other aspects, features, and embodiments are also claimed and described.

Abstract: A method of wireless communication includes receiving, by a UE, one or more configuration messages indicating synchronization signals (SS) and physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block measurement timing configuration (SMTC) parameters. The SMTC parameters indicate SMTC windows associated with reception of synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) by the UE from a base station. The method further includes, based on detecting one or more trigger conditions, transitioning, by the UE, from an inactive state to an active state to receive, during a time interval distinct from the SMTC windows, one or more SSBs from the base station. The method further includes performing, by the UE, one or more beam management operations based on the one or more SSBs received during the time interval.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may communicate with other network devices as part of a wireless communications system. The UE may identify a blockage corresponding to one or more antenna arrays of a set of antenna arrays based on using a first set of beam weights, which may correspond to a static beamforming codebook of the one or more antenna arrays. The UE may switch from a static beamforming codebook-based beam weight determination to a dynamic beamforming codebook-based beam weight determination. The UE may then determine a second set of beam weights to use for the one or more antenna arrays based on the dynamic beamforming codebook-based beam weight determination. The UE may then communicate using the one or more antenna arrays according to the second set of beam weights.
