    Abstract: The present specification describes a smart security management system for managing the flow of people through security checkpoints in order to optimize overall throughput and efficiency. In an embodiment, the system includes a centralized database which is connected to a plurality of security checkpoints and which uses benchmark response data generated by a specific type of screening devices for a set of individuals. In an embodiment, the response data gathered by similar types of screening devices located at security checkpoints is compared with the benchmark response data stored in a centralized database to provide faster security clearance to individuals.

    Abstract: The present application discloses a computed tomography system having non-rotating X-ray sources that are programmed to optimize the source firing pattern. In one embodiment, the CT system is a fast cone-beam CT scanner which uses a fixed ring of multiple sources and fixed rings of detectors in an offset geometry. It should be appreciated that the source firing pattern is effectuated by a controller, which implements methods to determine a source firing pattern that are adapted to geometries where the X-ray sources and detector geometry are offset.

    Abstract: An X-ray scanning system with a non-rotating X-ray scanner generates scanning data defining a tomographic X-ray image of an object. A processor analyzes the scanning data to extract parameters which can be mapped against a database to determine if the object comprises a sharp or pointed object, e.g. a knife. The parameters include a predefined length to width aspect ratio (because blades are typically longer in one dimension compared to another), or a predefined repeating structure (such as areas of high density and low density which might indicate the case/blade/air gaps of a folded knife).     Abstract: A processor analyses a tomographic X-ray image to determine contiguous volumes of low density material (e.g. in the range 1 3 g/cm3) in sheet or bulk shapes, to determine statistical properties of the contiguous volumes (e.g. mean value, standard deviation, skew), to search for collections of randomly oriented small parts (which might be tablets in a jar or bag) or to search for a structured arrangement of parts (which might be tablets in pop-out packaging). This data is used to identify narcotics by mapping against a database. An X-ray scanning system with a non-rotating X-ray scanner is used to generate the tomographic X-ray image of the scanned object.
