Abstract: 1470075 Exchange apparatus with hollow fibres; separating gases; dispersing gases in liquids RHONE-POULENC SA 30 May 1974 [30 May 1973] 23979/74 Headings B1C, B1L and BIX [Also in Division F4] A fluid fractionating apparatus comprises an elongate rigid core 1, with at least one longitudinally extending groove therein, a plurality of hollow fibres 2, 2' arranged longitudinally within the groove which acts as a bed for the fibres which are at least partially in contact with one another and with the core, two end walls 3, 4 (3', 4'), which secure the hollow fibres to one another at their ends, the walls being firmly secured to the core, a jacket 5, 6 at least partly surrounding the core, at least one fluid inlet 12 and one fluid outlet passage 13 being in the jacket. A method of making the apparatus comprises the steps of a) positioning hollow fibres longitudinally in a longitudinal groove or grooves of at least one elongate rigid core in such a manner as to fill the groove(s) with the hollow fibres, which are at least partially in contact with one another and with the core b) gluing the fibres to the core and to one another at the ends of the core to form end walls c) sectioning the fibres at the core a) positioning a member at least over the open side of the or each groove to close the groove before or after sectioning the fibres to form a jacket having at least one fluid inlet and outlet passage. The fractionation operations envisaged include dialysis, direct osmosis, gas-gas exchange, liquid-gas exchange and the dissolution of gases in liquids.

Abstract: A process for the production of polyester urethanes which are stable in the molten state and can be melt spun, comprises condensing at above 100 DEG C. in an aromatic chlorinated solvent having a B.P. of 120-200 DEG C. a mixture of: (a) 1 molecular proportion of at least one polyester having terminal hydroxyl groups and of M.W. 1200-5000 obtained by condensation of at least one aliphatic dicarboxylic acid having 4-12 C with at least one diol having 2-10 C, (b) 2-4 molecular proportions of at least one diol in which the hydroxyl groups are primary and which has more than 3 C, and optionally (c) at most 0.5 molecular proportions of at least one triol in which the hydroxyl groups are primary and/or secondary and which is soluble at elevated temperatures in the mixture of (a) and (b) with the solvent with (d) an aliphatic diisocyanate in amount such that the number of -NCO groups is equivalent to the number of hydroxyl groups in the mixture of (a) + (b) + (c), and separating the polyurethane from the solvent. Solvents may be chlorobenzene or o-dichlorobenzene. In a typical Example (1) a polyethylene adipate polyester in admixture with bis-(hydroxymethyl)-1,4-cyclohexane and tri-(hydroxymethyl) propane was reacted with hexane 1,6-diisocyanate in chlorobenzene. Abstract: Fluid fractionating apparatus and a unit for use therein, the unit being positionable in a jacket having at least one fluid inlet and at least one fluid outlet, the unit including at least one leakproof band wound up in the form of a spiral cylinder, the turns of which are radially spaced from one another. A multiplicity of hollow fibres are wound around the turns of the spiral cylinder and extend therebetween. Two end walls extend perpendicular to the axis of the spiral cylinder, and may be formed of a solidified glue, the walls being located one at each end of the cylinder and firmly fixed to the leakproof band of the hollow fibres, at least some of the fibres crossing right through at least one of the end walls and opening on the side thereof outside the spiral cylinder. An opening, which may be provided with a hollow mandrel extending into the interior of the innermost turn of the spiral, is used for feeding the fluid thereto or removing it therefrom.
