Abstract: Se proporciona un sistema y método de configuración de IED para facilitar mensajes de comunicación estandarizados entre una pluralidad de IED dentro de una red de sistema de energía basado en el estándar IEC 61850. Se describe un archivo de descripción para un dispositivo electrónico inteligente configurado de acuerdo con el estándar IEC-61850. El archivo de descripción incluye una sección la cual indica cual mensaje GOOSE deberá recibir el dispositivo electrónico inteligente En otra modalidad más, el archivo de descripción incluye una sección la cual es capaz de enlazarse a las funciones lógicas del dispositivo electrónico inteligente para efectuar la unión de datos programables o unión de datos dinámica. Se proporciona además una herramienta de configuración para editar y crear esos archivos de descripción. También se describe aquí un método para recibir selectivamente mensajes de un dispositivo electrónico inteligente configurado de acuerdo con el estándar IEC-61850, junto con un método para optimizar el espacio de archivo y mejorar la velocidad de ejecución de un dispositivo electrónico inteligente configurado de acuerdo con el estándar IEC-61850.

The system generally includes a detection device adapted to monitor a condition related to a power system. A radio interface unit is in communication with the detection device via a communication member. A wireless device is further provided which is in radio communication with the radio interface unit such that the detection device communicates information to the wireless device through a radio interface unit. The system's components are further adapted to endure harsh conditions (e.g., prolonged exposure to water).

Abstract: A system for communicating information from a detection device is provided through a waterproof and wireless interface. The system generally includes a communication member having an inductor and coupled to the detection device. An interface including another inductor is in communicating relation with the communication member. Upon a signal from the detection device, a magnetic field is produced by the inductor of the communication member and is transmitted to the inductor of the interface.

Abstract: A user interface for a wireless device used to monitor multiple groups of faulted circuit indicators. Each group of faulted circuit indicators includ es a radio interface unit, which is coupied to each of the faulted circuit i ndicators in the group. The user interface includes an identification indica tor, which includes a plurality of radio interface unit status indicators, e ach of which corresponds to a particular radio interface unit, and which ind icates a selected radio interface unit. The user interface also includes a w ay indicator comprising a plurality of faulted circuit indicator status indi cators, each of which corresponds to a particular faulted circuit indicator coupled to the selected radio interface unit. In addition, each radio interf ace unit status indicator indicates whether a particular radio interface uni t coupled to a faulted circuit indicator is asserting a fault condition.

Abstract: Provided is a system and method of configuring IEDs to facilitate standardized communication messages among a plurality of IEDs within a power system network based on the IEC 61850 standard. A description file is described for an intelligent electronic device configured in accordance with the IEC-61850 standard. The description file includes a section which indicates which GOOSE message the intelligent electronic device should receive. In yet another embodiment, the description file includes a section which is capable of linking to logic functions of the intelligent electronic device for performing programmable data binding or dynamic data binding. A configuration tool is further provided for editing and creating such description files. A method for selectively receiving messages from an intelligent electronic device configured in accordance with the IEC-61850 standard is also described herein, along with a method for optimizing file space and improving execution speed of an intelligent electronic device configured in accordance with the IEC-61850 standard.

Abstract: Abstract A method of preserving battery life in a radio interface unit is provided. The radio interface unit is in communication with a detection device and has a radio for communicating with a portable terminal by transmitting and receiving radio 5 frequency signals therebetween. The method comprises the steps of: keeping the radio of the radio interface unit in a slow sleep mode most of the time; periodically waking the radio of the radio interface unit up to determine if a request command is received from the portable terminal; setting the radio of the radio interface unit to a faster sleep mode if the detection device senses a select 10 condition; and waking the radio of the radio interface unit up more frequently to determine if a request command is received from the portable terminal when the radio is set in the faster sleep mode.
