Provided is a system and method of configuring IEDs to facilitate standardized communication messages among a plurality of IEDs within a power system network based on the IEC 61850 standard. A description file is described for an intelligent electronic device configured in accordance with the IEC-61850 standard. The description file includes a section which indicates which GOOSE message the intelligent electronic device should receive. In yet another embodiment, the description file includes a section which is capable of linking to logic functions of the intelligent electronic device for performing programmable data binding or dynamic data binding. A configuration tool is further provided for editing and creating such description files. A method for selectively receiving messages from an intelligent electronic device configured in accordance with the IEC-61850 standard is also described herein, along with a method for optimizing file space and improving execution speed of an intelligent electronic device configured in accordance with the IEC-61850 standard.

A configuration tool for creating a description file for an intelligent electronic device (lED) configured in accordance with the IEC-61850 standard for GOOSE messaging with other intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) comprises an editing tool for creating a section in the description file which indicates which GOOSE message the lED should receive. A configuration tool for creating a description file for an intelligent electronic device (lED) configured in accordance with the IEC-61850 standard for messaging with other intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) comprises an editing tool for creating a section in the description file capable of linking to logic functions of the lED for performing programmable data binding or dynamic data binding. A method for selectively receiving messages from an intelligent electronic device (lED) configured in accordance with the IEC-61850 standard for messaging with other intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) is disclosed. The message includes a number of bits. The method includes creating a message including at least one bit representative of the quality of the message, and selectively receiving the message by analyzing the bit representative of the quality of the message. A method for optimizing file space and improving execution speed of an intelligent electronic device (lED) configured in accordance with the IEC-61850 standard for messaging with other intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) is disclosed. The message includes a number of bits. The method includes creating a message including at least one bit indicating important data bits, and selectively receiving the message based on the bit indicating important data in order to prioritize the important data bits.

La presente se describen diversos sistemas y métodos que pueden mejorar la transmisión de datos sobre canales de comunicación de ancho de banda bajo en un sistema de suministro de energía eléctrica. Los dispositivos se comunican a través de un canal de comunicación de ancho de banda bajo pueden incrementar varias soluciones, de acuerdo con diversas modalidades que aquí se describen, para reducir los datos transmitidos a través del canal de comunicación de ancho de banda bajo y priorizar la transmisión de información sensible al tiempo y/o más importante con respecto a otros datos. Diversas modalidades que aquí se describen pueden inspeccionar paquetes que se van a transmitir a través de un canal de comunicación de ancho de banda bajo con el fin de identificar datos de alta prioridad. Los datos de alta prioridad puede ser información sensible al tiempo y en consecuencia la transmisión de estos datos se puede priorizar sobre otros datos con el fin de reducir la latencia de transmisión de los datos de prioridad superior.

Se proporciona un sistema y método de configuración de IED para facilitar mensajes de comunicación estandarizados entre una pluralidad de IED dentro de una red de sistema de energía basado en el estándar IEC 61850. Se describe un archivo de descripción para un dispositivo electrónico inteligente configurado de acuerdo con el estándar IEC-61850. El archivo de descripción incluye una sección la cual indica cual mensaje GOOSE deberá recibir el dispositivo electrónico inteligente En otra modalidad más, el archivo de descripción incluye una sección la cual es capaz de enlazarse a las funciones lógicas del dispositivo electrónico inteligente para efectuar la unión de datos programables o unión de datos dinámica. Se proporciona además una herramienta de configuración para editar y crear esos archivos de descripción. También se describe aquí un método para recibir selectivamente mensajes de un dispositivo electrónico inteligente configurado de acuerdo con el estándar IEC-61850, junto con un método para optimizar el espacio de archivo y mejorar la velocidad de ejecución de un dispositivo electrónico inteligente configurado de acuerdo con el estándar IEC-61850.

Devices communicating across a low-bandwidth communication channel may implement several approaches, according to various embodiments disclosed herein, to reduce the data transmitted across the low-bandwidth communication channel and to prioritize the transmission of time-sensitive and/or more important information with respect to other data. Various embodiments disclosed herein may inspect packets to be transmitted across a low-bandwidth communication channel in order to identify high priority data. High priority data may be time-sensitive information, and accordingly, transmission of such data may be prioritized over other data in order to reduce transmission latency of the higher priority data.
