Abstract: A fullerene derivative obtained by introducing one or more proton releasable groups such as -OH group or -SO3H group to a fullerene molecule is used as the proton conductor. Because the proton conductor is used over a wide temperature range including the room temperature under a dry condition, the atmosphere in which the fuel cell is used is not restricted, and the fuel cell is made small sized and simple.

Abstract: A charge separation heterojunction structure which uses a fullerene polymer film as a part of its constituent materials and which may be used to produce a solar cellor a light emitting diode superior in durability, physical properties of electrons and economic merits. The heterojunction structure is such a structure in which an electron-donating electrically conductive high-polymer film and an electron-accepting fullerene polymer film are layered between a pair of electrodes at least one of which is light transmitting. In forming the layers, the fullerene polymer film is identified using in particular the Raman and Nexafs methods in combination so that upper layers are formed after identifying the polymer film.

Abstract: A hydrogen-storing carbonaceous material is obtained by heating a carbonaceous material before hydrogen is stored under the pressure of hydrogen lower than 50 atmospheric pressure. A hydrogen-stored carbonaceous material is obtained by hydrogen storage in the hydrogen-storing carbonaceous material under the pressure of hydrogen lower than 50 atmospheric pressure. This hydrogen-stored carbonaceous material is used for a battery or a fuel cell. The hydrogen-stored carbonaceous material is heated before the hydrogen is stored under the pressure of hydrogen lower than 50 atmospheric pressure, so that the hydrogen-storing carbonaceous material whose hydrogen storage capacity is extremely improved is produced.

Abstract: A developer for electrostatic electrophotography which comprises a composition of colorant particles, an electric charge supplying agent and a resin binder dispersed in a dispersion medium. The resin binder is a copolymer which has a polyoxyethylene units at side chains thereof, so that the interaction with the electric charge supplying agent is improved. The resultant developer ensures good resolution, gradation and fixing property and is suitable for wet development to give high-quality images. When the copolymer used as the resin binder has styrene units therein, its solubility in the dispersion medium is improved. The developer is either liquid or solid depending on the type of dispersion medium.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a gas pressure regulator including an electrochemical cell (4) having a first electrode (1) for decomposing gas into ions, a second electrode (2) for converting the ions generated in the first electrode (1) into the gas again and an ion conductor (3) sandwiched in between both the electrodes (1) and (2); and a high pressure vessel (5) disposed in one side of the electrochemical cell (4). In this device, the gas is decomposed into the ions in the first electrode (1). The decomposed ions are allowed to pass through the ion conductor (3) sandwiched in between the first electrode (1) and the second electrode (2) and conducted to the second electrode (2) side. The conducted ions are reconverted into the gas in the second electrode (2).

The reflux system includes a solvent flask, an extraction tube connected to the solvent flask by a siphon tube and a vapor tube each extending between the extraction tube and the solvent flask, and an energy application disposed around the bottom portion of the extraction tube. The reflux systems can be used in a one-step method of purifying carbon nanostructures that includes placing a soot sample that contains the carbon nanostructures and amorphous carbon in a filter and disposing the filter in the extraction tube.

Abstract: A carbonaceous material for hydrogen storage which stores hydrogen in the fo rm of a proton is provided. Examples of such a carbonaceous material include a carbonaceous material which has a structure having a curvature and has a wor k function greater than 4.9 eV. Such a carbonaceous material can be formed by the arc discharge method. Usable carbonaceous materials for hydrogen storage also include a burned material comprising a polymer of a fullerene, a polyme r of a fullerene through electrolytic polymerization, a derivative based on a carbonaceous material having, introduced into the material, a group capable of bonding with a proton, a carbonaceous material having a structure containing a bending part and a carbonaceous material having, carried thereon, a metal having a catalytic activity for the separation of hydrogen molecules into hydrogen atoms and of hydrogen atoms into protons and electrons. A material for hydrogen storage obtained by applying a plus voltage to a material capab le of storing hydrogen and then subjecting the resultant material to a treatmen t under an atmosphere containing hydrogen is also usable. These materials for hydrogen storage can be used for an electric cell such as a fuel cell, an ai r cell and an alkaline secondary cell.
