Abstract: A color video printing apparatus includes a reflection sensor detecting information marks on a mark-carrying section of a spool of an ink ribbon cartridge detachably mounted on the printing apparatus. A system controller selects a printing mode based on identification results transmitted from the mark identification unit 36 and then controls a mechanical controller according to the printing mode.

Abstract: The ribbon cartridge (1) comprises a substantially cylindrical cartridge body comprised of upper and lower casing halves (20,10). A ribbon supply reel (30) is rotatably housed in the cartridge body and has an ink ribbon (40) wound therearound. A pull sheet (41) is affixed to a leading edge of the ink ribbon, and includes an opening (41a) allowing easy chucking of the ribbon cartridge in a printer. Also provided on the pull sheet are cut-out portions (41b) so arranged as to prevent creasing of the ink ribbon during use. When the ink ribbon has been completely used, the used ribbon is retracted back into the cartridge for easy removal from the printer.

Abstract: A video signal printing apparatus comprises a cassette (1) comprising a supply reel (13), a take-up reel (14), and a ribbon (10) wrapped around said reels; a main chassis (401) for receiving said cassette; a capstan (410) and a pinch roller (411) for feeding a paper (202) to a paper printing position; a motor means for rotating said capstan (410) and said pinch roller (411); a platen for receiving the paper in said paper printing position, said platen being disposed in a position downstream of said capstan (410) and pinch roller (411) in a feeding direction; a head means (323) for heating and pressing said ribbon (10) onto the paper (202) in said printing position, said head means (323) being movable between a head printing position in which said ribbon is pressed onto said paper and a head waiting position in which said head releases said ribbon from said paper; and a control means (308) for selectively moving said head means (323) between said head printing position and said head waiting position, and for causing a slack of the ribbon to wind up onto said supply reel (13) upon said head means moving to said head waiting position.
