Abstract: A recording apparatus for an optical recording medium (1) having a pregroove and address data includes a recording head apparatus (4-7) and a controller (11). The recording head apparatus (4-7) has an optical head device (4) and records data on the optical recording medium (1) along the pregroove. The optical head device (4) radiates a light beam having an intensity which is enough to record the data on the optical recording medium (1). The optical head device (4) includes a detector. The controller (11) controls the recording head apparatus and receives an output signal supplied from the detector. The optical head device (4) is controlled to move a recording start point from the previous recording start point by a predetermined value when the controller (11) detects the occurrence of a recording error according to the output signal from the detector and restarted to record the data from the moved recording start point on the optical recording medium (1).

Abstract: An apparatus for recording compressed digitized information to an optical disc by reading the digital data into a memory for transient storage. The digital input data thus written into the memory are sequentially read out of the memory and into an encoder at a transfer rate faster than the input transfer rate where the digital data are arranged in discrete clusters of record units including clusterlinking groups such that each record unit can be interleaved independently and without affecting other record units. The interleaved record units are then recorded onto an optical disc. Reproduction of the record units from the optical disk is carried out b reversing the process.
