Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an error rate and also to increase the recording density by providing tape vibration damping members respectively at adjacent positions of both sides of a magnetic head which is arranged at one surface side of a magnetic tape. SOLUTION: When the magnetic tape T is run at a high speed, the vibration such as disturbing the recording/reproducing operation is not generated on the magnetic tape existing between left and right vibration damping members, since the vibration generated on the magnetic tape is damped by the left and right vibration damping members (stabilizing plates) 20. In the case the vibration damping members 20 are constituted with the stabilizing plates for instance, the air flow is generated around the magnetic tape when the magnetic tape begins the running, and this air flow is entered between the magnetic tape T and the stabilizing plates 20, and since the magnetic tape is run so as to make the air pressure of this inflow air constant, the magnetic tape T is stably run along the stabilizing plates 20. Consequently, the vibration of the magnetic tape T is sufficiently suppressed by the positions of the stabilizing plates.

Then, the magnetic head 15 has a slider surface 6a on the side of the magnetic tape touching surface, and the slider surface 6a is provided with a recessed part.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent curling and cracking of a perpendicularly magnetized Co-Cr film and to improve productivity by introducing gaseous nitrogen and inert gas into a vacuum deposition atmosphere at the time of forming said film by vacuum deposition, thereby relieving the internal stress of the film. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 3 is fixed to a substrate holder 2 in the uppermost part of a vacuum bell-jar 1 and a vessel 5 contg. a vapor source 6 is provided to the bottom thereof. A vacuum state is maintained in the bell-jar 1 by a discharge mechanism 8 and the vapor source 6 is heated. A shutter 4 is opened to vacuum-deposit the Co-Cr vapor on the substrate 3 at the point of the time when the stable vapor is generated. A gas introducing pipe 7 is provided to the bell-jar 1 to introduce the gaseous nitrogen or inert gas into the vacuum deposition atmosphere. The internal stress generated in the perpendicularly magnetized Co-Cr film at the time of preparing said film is thereby relieved, by which the curling and cracking of the film are prevented. The production of the medium with high productivity and the improvement in the magnetic characteristics thereof are thus permitted.
