    Abstract: An optical recording medium using Sn as the recording material to improve the jitter is provided, in which on the surface of a disc substrate 11 where a concave and convex shape dividing a track area is formed, are formed on the surface of the concave and convex shape a first protective layer 31 for protecting at least an optical recording layer 31, an optical recording layer 12 using a chemical compound at least composed of tin (Sn), nitrogen (N) and oxygen (O), formed on the first protective layer, a second protective layer 32 for protecting this optical recording layer, formed on this optical recording layer, and a light-transmittable layer 13 formed on the second protective layer; with this structure, the optical recording layer 12 under high temperature and high humidity can be stabilized by means of the first and second protective layers 31 and 32.

    Abstract: An optical recording medium in which Sn is used for the recording material a nd the jitter is improved. The medium comprises a substrate (11) having projections/recesses for dividing a track area on its surface. Over the area where the projections/recess are formed, at least a first protective layer (31) for protecting an optical recording layer, an optical recording layer (12) formed on the first protective layer and containing a compound of tin (Sn), nitrogen (N), and oxygen (O), a second protective layer (32) formed on the optical recording layer and protecting the optical recording layer, and a light transmitting layer (13) formed on the second protective layer. The fir st and second protective layers (31, 32) serve to stabilize the optical recordi ng layer (12) at high temperatures and at high humidities.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an optical recording medium in which two or more information-recording layers are laminated for obtaining a high recording density, and also incidence of light and detection. of return light can be performed with high efficiency relating to an information-recording layer at a position distant from a light-incident side, thus having satisfactory recording and reproduction characteristics; and also provides an optical recording and reproducing method for performing at least recording or reproduction of information using this optical recording medium. The optical recording medium 10 includes a plurality of information-recording layers 21, 22 between one principal plane on which light can be incident and the other principal plane on the side opposite to this one principal plane, or which a first information-recording layer 21 nearest to the other principal plane is made to be a phase-modulation type information-recording layer and the other information-recording layer 22 is made to be a reflectance-modulation type information-recording layer. In this optical recording medium 10; recording or reproduction of information relating to the first information-recording layer 21 is performed by phase-modulation method and recording or reproduction of information relating to the other information-recording layer 22 is performed by reflectance-modulation method.
