Abstract:
A magnetic tape cartridge and its recorder/reproducer in which a magnetic he ad can be protected against damage by suppressing charging of a magnetic tape while lowering the resistance thereof and sustaining high electromagnetic conversion characteristics. A tape reel (7) is formed of a conductive materi al and the surface resistivity ~.OMEGA./sq~ at one end part of a magnetic tape (6) being connected to its reel hub (7B) is set not higher than 107. Since t he magnetic tape (6) has a multilayer structure of a magnetic layer (23), a nonmagnetic conductor layer (22), a plastic film (21) and a back coat layer (24) formed from the magnetic face (6M) side, the exposed nonmagnetic conductor layer (22) is connected to a reel hub (7A) even when the surface resistivity of the magnetic layer (23) exceeds 107.OMEGA./sq by removing the magnetic layer (23). Consequently, the resistance of the magnetic tape is lowered while sustaining high electromagnetic conversion characteristics.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarized light separating element which has as much a simple structure, as possible, while having small number of layers and further has high polarization and splitting effects. SOLUTION: A single layer or multi layers of a thin film is deposited on a prism substrate of prism structure, having a groove of cross-sectional triangle shape. Then prism substrates manufactured on the same conditions are stuck together via a UV curing resin. Thereby the polarization and splitting element can have high polarization and splitting effects with few number of times of film-deposition, and consequently simplification of a manufacturing process is realized without lowering the optical characteristics. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium in which the mechanical strength, the electromagnetic transducing characteristics, and the dimensional stability are high, and which can realize a high recording density. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium includes a long nonmagnetic supporting body 1 having the main component of an aromatic polyimide and the thickness of about 2.0-10.0 μm, a magnetic layer 3 formed on the first side of the nonmagnetic supporting body 1 in which a signal is linearly recorded and reproduced in the longitudinal direction, and a reinforcement film 2 formed between the nonmagnetic supporting body and the magnetic layer and/or on the second side of the nonmagnetic supporting body, including a metal or a semimetal, and having the overall thickness of about 4-1000 nm. The Young's modulus of the stacked body including the nonmagnetic supporting body, the magnetic layer, and a reinforcement film with respect to the longitudinal direction is about 7-20 GPa, the Young's modulus with respect to the width direction is about 4-15 GPa, and the moisture expansion rate with respect to the width direction is equal to or less than about 0.001%.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the dimensional stability of a magnetic recording medium against expansion by humidity. SOLUTION: As for the nonmagnetic supporting body 1 constituting the magnetic recording medium 10, a film produced by forming reinforcing layers 5, 5a, 5b of aluminum, cobalt, chromium or oxides of these with total 4 to 1,000 [nm] film thickness on at least one principal surface of a polyester plastic film 11 having 2.0 to 10.0 [μm] film thickness is used. The expansion rate by humidity of the magnetic recording medium 10 in the width direction is specified to
