Abstract: RFK-1860 Title: PROCESS FOR UPGRADING HYDROCARBONACEOUS MATER IALS This invention relates to a process for upgrading a hydrocarbonaceous material to a product having a lower boiling point than the initial boiling point of said hydrocarbonaceous material and/or a higher boiling point than the final boiling point of said hydrocarbonaceous material, the process comprising heating a feed composition comprising said hydrocarbonaceous material in an enclosed space in the absence of externally supplied water or hydrogen at a temperature in the range of about 750.degree.F to about 1300.degree.F and a pressure sufficient to maintain the specific gravity of the contents of said enclosed space in the range of about 0.05 to about 1.5 for an effective period of time to yield said product, said feed composition being characterized by the absence of aromatic compounds with boiling points at atmospheric pressure below about 350.degree.F.

Abstract: SAM-P-3901 A process for producing superior grade coke in a coking drum is accomplished by stripping increased amounts of volatile carbonaceous material using a light hydrocarbon stream without sacrificing cycle time. The light hydrocarbon stream is effective in solubilizing the volatile carbonaceous material while cooling the formed coke.

Abstract: SAM-P-4426 A technique for measuring the coefficient of thermal expansion of calcined petroleum coke. This technique involves pressing a pellet of calcined coke to determine the coefficient of thermal expansion. It has the advantage of eliminating the graphitization and machining steps resulting in reduced manpower and turnaround time and requires less sample which allows CTE determination of laboratory scale cokers. Results show good correlation between this technique and traditional extrusion techniques.

Abstract: 1409599 Purifying NH 3 plant effluent STANDARD OIL CO 19 June 1973 [22 June 1972] 28937/73 Heading C1A A gas stream containing at least 90% by vol. steam and 0À1-10% by vol. of NH 3 and/or organic compounds with up to 6 carbon atoms is contacted with a catalyst containing the oxides of Cu, Fe, Mn, Bi, Ni, Co, U, Mo, V, Cr, W, Pd, Pt, Ag, Zn, alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, Sn and/or Sb at a temperature of 200-800‹ C. to oxidize the NH 3 or organic compound, wherein the said gas stream is obtained as a result of (a) stripping a hot K 2 CO 3 solution to form a gas stream containing H 2 O, CO 2 , together with NH 3 and/or the organic compounds, (b) condensing or washing the gas stream with H 2 O to form an aqueous stream containing NH 3 and/or the organic compounds and (c) steam stripping the aqueous stream to obtain the said gas stream containing NH 3 and/or the organic compounds. O 2 in the form of air is preferably added to the gas stream prior to catalysis. The K 2 CO 3 solution containing the CO 2 together with NH 3 and the organic compounds may be that formed on scrubbing a gas stream formed on catalytic oxidation of CH 4 with steam and air to form H 2 and CO 2 , in which case the organic compounds are CH 3 OH, HCOOH and HCHO.
