Abstract: The xenon lamp is intended as a light source for an explosion-proof testing device. The lamp (2) is surrounded by a cooling tube of UV transparent glass. The tube has restrictions near the lamp ends containing the electrodes. Its length is such that it exrends over the both (HV, LV) lamp electrodes. The upper end (HV) carries an annular cap (32) hermetically sealed together with the high voltage terminal (29) and at its periphery. From the wall of the cap extends laterally a short discharge tube (31). In the middle section of a connecting part is screwed down the LV terminal and which forms a flow aperture. A second annular cap (36) is provided at the LV (lower) end, to whose inner surface the connecting part is screwed down.

Abstract: A xenon lamp which will sustain a light intensity which is more or less constant over a considerably long operating period. The metallic vapour or volatile substances produced during the discharge process will be adsorbed on pieces of magnet inside the bulb, preventing the walls from becoming blackened. The magnetic adsorber is ring shaped. The ring shaped element is mounted in a heat resistant electrically insulating sheet which is located between the discharge section of an electrode and the sealed section at the end of the bulb. The magnetic field produced will attract the volatile particles away from the inner surface of the bulb, preventing any blackening.

Abstract: The xenon lamp comprises an elongated tube of quartz with electrodes sealed in the opposite ends of the tube and xenon gas filling the tube. An annular magnet is fitted around the tube at the position corresponding to the free end of each electrode, whereby metal vapour and other volatile material given off by the electrodes at the time of glow discharge is attracted onto the inner surface of the tube at the positions of the magnets. Thus blackening and white turbidity on the light transmitting part of the wall of the tube are avoided. Rings of resilient material are tightly secured around the tube at the opposite ends of each magnet for holding the magnets in position on the tube.

Abstract: The colour fastness proving apparatus consists of a Xenon lamp (2) light source positioned at the centre of a frame (14) suspended inside a proving chamber. Above and below the lamp are concentric, ring-shaped mirrors (12) each ring being at a different angle to the horizontal so that light from the lamp is reflected and concentrated on an area around the frame. A cylindrical test-piece holder (3) supported on a central bearing (6) and rotated by a friction drive at its upper rim (7a), carries the specimen material in the focal plane of the concentrated illumination. The inside of the test chamber is under forced ventilation to maintain a constant temperature and humidity and to extend the life of the Xenon lamp.

Abstract: A carbon electrode comprises (a) a C bar electrode having a discharge tip at one end and a holding section at the other, (b) a coating of Al or predominantly Al-alloy on all peripheral surfaces of the bar except the discharge tip and (c) a second coating of Al2O3 and Si oxide on all peripheral surfaces except the discharge tip and holding end. The electrodes are useful for sunshine or ultra-violet carbon arc lamps used for fading and weathering tests on paints or fabrics. Electrodes life is increased by up to 20%. As the C is consumed and Al melts, the molten Al combines with the oxide and forms a vitreous ceramic which descends under gravity so no molten metal coats the lamp envelope and reduces transmittance. The exhaust contains no toxic materials. The ultraviolet output is about the same as that of lamps using conventional C electrodes, but infra-red output is reduced.

Abstract: An improved arc lamp, particularly for use in a weathermeter. In order to prevent the ashes from the combustion of the carbon electrodes from adhering to the inside of the glass globe of the conventional lamp, the electrode support plate at the top of the globe has a series of magnets placed thereon inside the globe, so that the ashes are collected in the vicinities of the magnetic poles of the magnets instead of being diffused throughout the globe.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actualize a 645-size single-lens reflex camera which makes a series of operations for photography possible by the movement of fingers, and is small-sized, lightweight, and highly reliable. SOLUTION: The 645-size single-lens reflex camera is characterized by the fact that a mirror 34 is built in a free swinging and reciprocating state in a mirror storage part 32 where a lens barrel having lenses incorporated is fitted and a film exposure surface 35 is provided on the back side. Film storage parts 37 and 39 are arranged on both the sides of the mirror storage part 32 while surrounding the mirror 34 and film spools 36 and 38 are stored in the film storage parts 37 and 39. The centers of rotation of the respective film spools 36 and 38 come out from the film exposure plane 35 toward the lens barrel. The mirror 34 is arranged between and in parallel to the centers of rotation of the film spools 36 and 38.
