Abstract: SPINNERET FOR PRODUCTION OF COMPOSITE FILAMENTS An improved spinneret for use in producing composite filaments, comprises: nozzles for feeding at least an island constituent melt; a combining chamber having a horizontal bottom surface, into which chamber a sea constituent melt is introduced, the combining chamber having discharging outlets for the sea melt in combination with the respective nozzles, each combination being connected to an outlet for extruding a primary composite melt stream of a n "core in sheath" type or a secondary composite melt stream of an "islands in a sea" type. The improvement being in that the combining chamber has feeding holes at the bottom surface thereof for the sea melt, in such an arrangement that the feeding holes are located substantially uniformly over the entire bottom surface of the combining chamber, and the extruding outlet are grouped into respective groups, each group having the same number of extruding outlets and the extruding outlets in each group are located equiangularly along a circle, whereby each circle has the same diameter, the respective circles having centers at which the feeding holes are located and being substantially equally spaced apart from the neighbouring circles.

Abstract: An apparatus for effecting intermingling of individual filaments in a running yarn by the action of two or more fluid jets comprises a chamber (5) extending longitudinally through a body shell (2), the chamber being defined by a horizontal planar first wall portion (6) and a bent or curved second wall portion (7) which is symmetrical about a vertical plane extending longitudinally through the middle of the first wall portion. Fluid jet nozzles (9a,9b) positioned symmetrically in the second wall portion provide air jets which combine as a compound jet which forces a yarn down towards the first wall portion (6), causing intermingling of the filaments. Because of the symmetry of the chamber and air jets continuous unidirectional rotation of the yarn is minimised so that a high degree of uniform intermingling is achieved for a minimal air flow. The apparatus can be an assembly of three wall pieces, (2a, 2b, 2c), the first wall portion (6) of the chamber being a ceramic surface to resist abrasion by the yarn and airflows, and a longitudinal slit (13) can provided to facilitate introduction and removal of the yarn.

Abstract: Different fluid polymers are continuously discharged into a limited space, at the same time, with passages for the polymers being moved relative to spinning orifices of a spinneret. A multiple layer flow is formed in which the different polymers alternate in the direction of flow. When the multiple layer flow is passed through the orifices of the spinneret plate, cooled and solidified or dried and coagulated, a fiber is obtained in which the different polymers are alternately arranged along the fiber. The interfaces between the different polymers are parabolic curved surfaces.

Abstract: Between a feed roll (2,41) feeding an entangled multifilament yarn (Y) to a measuring zone of degree of entanglement and a yarn-forwarding roll (4,43) forwarding the yarn (Y) out of the measuring zone are disposed a first tension roll (16a,44a) with a weight (17a) attached thereto, a pulley (3,42) connected to a rotation meter (8) and supported free to rotate, and a second tension roll (16b,44b) with a weight (17b) attached thereto. A needle (5,47) capable of piercing the yarn (Y) is provided between the pulley (3,42) and either one of the first and the second tension rolls (16a,44a,16b,44b). Under the state wherein the needle (5,47) pierces the yarn (Y), an auxiliary weight (14a,14b,51a,51b) is added to the first or the second tension roll (16a,44a or 16b,44b), and the movement distance of the yarn (Y) from the position where the needle (5,47) pierces the yarn (Y) to the position where the point of entanglement (Yc) is engaged with the needle (5,47) is measured by detecting the amount of rotation of the pulley (3,42). Next, the auxiliary weight (14b,51b) is removed, an auxiliary weight (14a,51a) is added to the other tension roll (16b,44b or 16a,44a), and the movement distance of the yarn (Y) from the above position to the position where another point of entanglement (Yd) is engaged with the needle (5,47) is measured similarly. The measured movement distance of the yarn (Y) corresponds to the distance between the points of entanglement (Yc,Yd) and gives a measure of the entanglement. By the measuring apparatus, the degree of entanglement in a yarn (Y) can be measured automatically with high accuracy without using a tension meter.

Abstract: An apparatus and a process are disclosed for preparing a new type of conjugate fiber composed of multiple layers of different polymer materials. In the process, different fluid polymers are continuously supplied through parallel passages in a movable peripherally grooved flat plate to a chamber situated between said flat plate and a spinneret plate. As the polymers are supplied to the chamber, the flat plate is moved relative to the spinneret plate so that a multiple layer polymer flow results wherein the different polyfiber is obtained in which the different polymers are alternately arranged along the fiber. The interfaces between the different polymers are parabolic curved surfaces. The novel conjugate fiber so obtained has excellent properties with regard to dye acceptance, luster and touch, and is suitable for a wide range of uses such as for clothing and interior fabrics.
