Abstract:
A composite polyester film comprising a major layer and a minor layer composed of a polyester having a melt resistivity of less than 5 x 10 OMEGA .cm and lower than that of a polyester constituting the major layer and a thickness of 1/200 to 4/10 of the thickness of the composite film as a whole. The film exhibits excellent electrostatic castability and heat stability.
Abstract:
Polyester film for use as a base for magnetic recording medium is prepd. from a polyester obtd. using a germanium cpd. as polymerisation catalyst, and has Young's modulus in the longitudinal direction (Emd) at least 350 kg/square mm; Young"s modulus in the transverse direction (Etd) at least 350 kg/mm2; Emd.Etd at least 250,000 square kg/mm; refractive index (nzd) across the thickness of the film at least 1.480 and not more than 1.492. The max. surface roughness (Rt) on at least one side surface is no more than 100 nm. The film may be a laminate of two films both satisfying the above criteria, in which case one film may contain fine particles and pref. has Rt no less than 30 nm.
Abstract:
A thermoplastic resin base film for a magnetic recording medium includes a thermoplastic resin film (1) and a discontinuous film (2) adhering closely to at least one surface of the thermoplastic resin film (1). The discontinuous film (2) has a thickness of not larger than 0.05µm and is composed of a polymer blend containing fine particles (3). The polymer blend comprises a water-soluble polyester copolymer and a water-soluble polymer having at least one hydroxyl group in the recurring unitthereof. Fine protrusions are formed on the discontinuous film due to the presence of the fine particles therein. A magnetic recording medium using the base film is suitable for high density magnetic recording and has extremely excellent durability to repeated use.
Abstract:
A laminated film comprising (A) a layer 5 composed of a thermoplastic resin and (B) a layer 1 composed of a thermoplastic resin containing fine particles therein, wherein a discontinuous skin having a height of 50 to 1,000 A is formed on the outer surface of the layer (A) and the outer surface of the layer (B) has a surface Ra value of 0.005 to 0.040µ. The laminated film is very valuable as a base film of a magnetic recording tape having a ferromagnetic metal thin film formed on the surface of the layer (A), especially a video tape, because it has a good running property and is excellent in the electromagnetic transformation performances.
Abstract:
A polyester film for recording medium, having one major surface thereof provided with a coating containing fine particles of 5 to 60 nm diameter and an organic compound, wherein the number of fine surface projections existing on the coating surface is in the range of 3 million to 100 million /mm2, and the number of surface defects of 120 nm or greater height attributed to foreign matter contained in the film is 30 /100 cm2 or less, and wherein the polyester contains a titanium compound substantially not having any particle diameter. Thus, there are provided a magnetic recording tape for digital data recording that can reduce dropouts and excels in durability, and further provided a polyester film that is suitable as a base film thereof.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film of a magnetic recording medium to manufacture a magnetic tape which is less abrading to MR heads, excellent in tape run and durability with less dropouts and used in digital recording with a track pitch 6 μm or less. SOLUTION: This polyester film of a magnetic recording medium has a film containing fine particles and organic chemicals on its one surface A, and this film has fine projections of the above fine particles on its surface. The number of the fine projections is 500 to 9000 million/mm 2 with their diameter (D) of 20 to 100 nm and their height (H) of 10 to 30 nm, and the density of the projections is 10% or less. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filtering apparatus for a polyester suppressing the pyrolysis of the polyester at the time of filtering, and to provide a method for enhancing the productivity of a polyester stretched film. SOLUTION: A large number of leaf disk filters are housed in casing laminated with multi-layer. A molten polyester flows through the space between the inner surface of the casing and the leaf disk filters, and is filtered through the leaf disk filters. In this filtering apparatus, the flow resistance of the leaf disk filters to the molten polyester is 1.3 times or less the average of the flow resistance of the housed leaf disk filters.
