    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fiber having good heat resistance by using polycarbonate as a core component, and by incorporating a phosphorus contg. hindered phenol compd. as a polymer of the core component. CONSTITUTION:The titled fiber is composed of a core-sheath structure comprising polycarbonate as the core component and a fluorine contg. polymer as the sheath component. The polymer of the core component is the phosphorus contg. hindered phenol compd. The polycarbonate of the core component polymer is necessary to contain the phosphors contg. hindered phenol compd. The phosphorus contg. hindered phenol compd. contg. in the core component comprises a compd. contg. the phosphorus element and a hindered phenolic hydroxyl group in a molecule, or a mixture of the phosphorus compd. such as phosphite or phosphonate, etc., and the hindered phenol compd. The polymer of the sheath component is composed of a polymer having lower retractive index than that of the polymer of the core component, such as a fluorine contg. polymer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:In the direct polymerization process using TPA as a starting material, the necessary minimum amount of bis-beta-hydroxyethyl terephthalate is produced at first, then the excessive EG is removed from the ayatem, and finally the esterification is carried out by supplying the slurry continuously to the system. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene glycol (EG) is charged into a reactor and heated at 180-250 deg.C. Simultaneously or subsequently to the above, the reactor is fed with a slurry of terephtalic acid (TPA) and EG continuosly, and bis-beta-hydroxyethyl terephtalate is produced. Excessive EG is discharged from the reaction mixture to attain the molar ratio of EG/TPA in the reaction mixture at the completion of the reaction from 2-10 to 0.9-1.5. The reaction is continued by supplying a slurry composed of TPA and EG at the molar ratio of EG/TPA of 0.9-1.5, continuously to the reaction system. EFFECT:The production of diethylene glycol of BHT can be reduced.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prapare various kinds of polyesters suitable for various applications, by introducing a slurry consisting of specific molar ratio of a TPA and EG to a distance esterification reaction zone, and then charging to respective batchwise esterification reactor. CONSTITUTION:A slurry of EG and TPA wherein the molar ratio of EG/TPA is 0.80-1.70, is stored in a slurry tank 8, and introduced to a slurry supply tank 41 in an esterification reaction zone with a pump 9. The slurry is then introduced to a primary slurry supply line 45 with a primary slurry supply pump 42, and then branched and continuously introduced to esterification reactors 50, 50', etc., with secondary slurry supply pumps 47, 47', etc. to carry out the esterification reaction. The amount of slurry in the slurry tank 8, and the amounts of TPA and EG, are controlled by cascade control. An intermediate slurry tank 33 and a pump 34 are preferably provided before the esterification reaction zone. The pump is pref. a snake pump.
