Abstract: 1,209,625. Spinning machines. TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc. and HOWA MACHINERY Ltd. 2 Nov., 1967 [4 Nov., 1966; 27 April, 1967; 8 May, 1967], No. 49952/67. Heading D1D. In an open-end spinning machine wherein a fibrous bundle is supplied to a feeding device whereby it is converted into loose fibres which are entrained by a pneumatic suction flow to twisting apparatus to form a yarn, the loss of yarn tension due to breakage is detected and the fibre bundle is diverted away from the twisting apparatus with a second pneumatic flow. As shown in the apparatus of Fig. 1, when a spinning yarn is broken, a microswitch 12 initiates closure of a magnet valve 5 so that supply of compressed air into feeding device 3 is arrested. The bundle of fibres 2 slackens momentarily and is sucked into a nozzle 13 and conducted from the apparatus through a duct 14. The broken end is restored by stopping the advancing action of rollers 10, 10', passing the end drawn from cheese 11 upwards through shaft 7 and starting the spinning rotor 8. As the rotor reaches operational speed, the ballooning yarn passes a detector wire 12' to operate switch 12 to open valve 5 and restore a negative pressure in the device 3 whereby the suction effect thereof on filbres 2 overcomes that of nozzle 13 and normal running is resumed. In a modification, the microswitch operates a valve (5') in duct 14 the suction effect of which overcomes that due to device 3. As shown in the apparatus of Fig. 3, yarn 21 breakage is detected by a wire 12' which operates microswitch 12 to open magnetic valve 24 so that the bundle of fibres is sucked into nozzle 25 disposed at the junction of front rollers 15, 15', and the inlet of a rotating supply pipe 16 whence fibres are normally ejected onto the inside wall of spinning rotor 18 by a vortical air flow therein due to rotation of a distributing tube 17 and the rotor. In a modified apparatus, a stationary supply pipe 16 is inserted into a spinning rotor (18'). In an application of the invention to a system, such as disclosed in Czechoslovakian Specification 91208, Fig. 9 (not shown), the operation of switch 12, by a detector wire responsive to yarn breakage, opens a valve, as at 24, and also closes at valve, as at 5, to arrest flow in an air suction conduit leading from the rotor casing. After a yarn breakage, the yam may be backed-up by, and perhaps spinning continued with the assistance of or as modified by, suction and/or forwarding or reverse passage of injected compressed air. In one form of yarn breakage detector, Fig. 6, an operating arm 30' of a microswitch 12 is normally held in the position shown by tension in the yarn 9 passing between take-up rollers 10, 10' and over a lower arm of the detector wire 30. Roller 10 is rotatably mounted on a shaft (not shown) supported by a pivotable shaft 31 a spring 32 wound on which presses roller 10 onto rooller 10'. In another detector, an outlet guide wire 30" is separate from detector wire 30'.
