An apparatus for manufacturing a fluffy yarn used in combination with a yarn-advancing mechanism and having one or more fluffraising members axially rotational in contact with a ballooning portion of the advancing yarn for partially and intermittently cutting fibrous materials composing the yarn. The fluff-raising member may be rotated positively.

Disclosed herein is a method and apparatus for use with yarnspinning equipment wherein individual fibers are extracted from a bundle of fibers delivered from a supply source at a position in a fiber supply device where the fluid speed of the airstream for conveying the fibers is maximum, while the bundle of fibers is still gripped by the supply source. In the present invention, a distance between the nip point of the supply source and the above-mentioned position is particularly defined with respect to the staple length of the spinning material. Furthermore, preferable shapes are illustrated for the fiber guide conduit, the fiber-separating passage, and the fiber supply conduit of the fiber supply device for producing a high quality yarn.

An elastic yarn is made by doubling a stretched elastic yarn 1 with a bundle of filaments 6 primary twisting the doubled yarn, untwisting the yarn, e.g. at false-twist spindle 11, and secondary twisting the yarn in a stretched condition, e.g. at ring-twister 16 and relaxing the yarn between the primary and secondary twisting operations. One yarn can be relaxed after doubling, e.g. between rolls 12a, 12b and 19a, 19b. The relaxation treatment may be operated periodically, e.g. with an eccentric roller (Fig. 3). The yarn can be heat set by heater 26a before during or after primary twisting. The elastic yarn can be made of polyurethane or rubber. The filaments can be made of rayon, acetate, polyamide, polyester, polypropylene, polyacrylonitrile or can be composite multifilaments.
