    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a semipermeable membrane comprising a polymer compsn. excellent in contamination resistance obtd. by mixing a contamination-resistant polymers comprising a hydrophilic component and a hydrophobic component, by specifying the difference between the max. and the min. proprotions of the hydrophilic component in the semipermeable memberane. CONSTITUTION:This semipermeable membrane contains a compsn. prepared by mixing two or more kinds of contamination-resistant polymers comprising a hydrophilic component and hydrophobic component as the structural component. It is specified that the difference between the max. and the min. proportion of the hydrophobic component is >=5wt.%. By this method, affinity between a polymer having high hydrophobic content and a noncontaminant material can be increased even when the average hydrophilic component is same, so that a stable molded body or a mixture soln. can be obtd. in a compatible or semicompatible state. Thereby, the obtd. membrane is excellent stability and contamination resistance.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To determine endotoxin by subjecting a specimen to a low-temp. heat treatment and diluting and heating treatment, then adding the specimen to the blood cell extracting component soln. of a horseshoe crab and measuring the lapse of the turbidity as gelatination progresses. CONSTITUTION:The specimen is heated to 30 to 50 deg.C, is diluted 5 to 20 times with water and is heated for about 5 to 20 minutes. The specimen subjected to this pretreatment is added to the aq. soln. of the blood cell extracting component of the horseshoe crab. The turbidity changes as the gelatination progresses. The specified turbidity is attained upon completion of the gelatination if the certain time passes by. The change rate of the turbidity of this time is detected from a change in the quantity of the transmitted light and the time until the turbidity lowers down to the specified ratio of the initial value is measured. This time is determined as the index of the concn. of the endotoxin in the specimen. The quantity of the endotoxin in the specimens, such as serum and plasma in particular, which contain protein, is determined with the high reliability according to this constitution.
