Abstract:
Systems and methods to provide compact, scalable, low loss optical switches. An optical switch of this invention includes two or more directing elements, each directing element having two or more sections. Each section includes a switchable deviating element. During operation of a two element optical switch of this invention, the first section of the first element can selectively deviate in a first direction the input beam for that section. The second section of the first element can selectively deviate in a second direction the input beam for that section. The optical beams transmitted by the first element constitute the input beams for the second element. The first section of the second element can selectively deviate in a third direction, which can be the same as the first or second direction, the input beam for that section. The second section of the second element can selectively deviate in a fourth direction, which can be the same as the first or second direction, the input beam for that section. By selecting the relationship between the third direction and the first or second direction and the relationship between the fourth direction and the first or second direction, different designs are obtained. Also, multiple input switches can be obtained by either repeating the first section for half of multiple inputs followed by repeated second sections (also refereed to as a segmented design) or by interleaving first and second sections.
Abstract:
A system for providing test data for testing a semiconductor memory includes generation means for successively developing generated data patterns beginning from a seed data pattern, such that every distinct data pattern of the seed data pattern is successively developed in a forward sequence and, subsequently, the distinct data patterns are successively developed in a reverse sequence relative to the forward sequence.
Abstract:
Methods for forming or purifying organometallic compounds of elements of Group III-A of the Periodic Table. An intermediate compound is formed which is an adduct of the desired organometallic compound and a Group I-A or Group II-A compound. The adduct is nonvolatile, so volatile impurities are removed from the adduct by distillation. The adduct is decomposed to release the volatile organometallic compound, which is then distilled away from the nonvolatile remainder of the adduct. The method can be used to produce organometallic compounds which are substantially free of volatile metallic compounds and complexed solvents. A method of separating volatile Group II-B impurities from volatile Group III-A compounds is also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention is portable lifting apparatus for raising a supine bipedal user into a sitting position with the assistance of sequentially inflated bodies. This device includes a sectional cot, a plurality of inflatable bodies, and a rigid, foldable, locking frame. The addition of the frame, as opposed to the sole use of the inflatable bodies, provides additional stability for the apparatus during the rescue process. Further, due to the rigidity of the frame, it allows another person to lift and carry the apparatus with the patient on it. The apparatus may also include collapsible armrest for use by the patient. The inflatable bodies may inflate simultaneously, resulting in a rapidly raising the patient to a sitting position.
Abstract:
A knife for cutting food products comprises a blade portion, a handle portion, and a bolster. The blade portion has a cutting edge and a spine. The spine is disposed on a top side of the blade portion. The bolster has at least a first thickness and is positioned between the blade portion and the handle portion. The bolster comprises a first generally curved-shape proximal boundary and a second generally curved-shaped distal boundary. The bolster has a first lateral sidewall and a second lateral sidewall. A surface depression is disposed between the first generally curved-shape proximal boundary and the second generally curved-shape distal boundary of at least one of the first lateral sidewall and the second lateral sidewall. The first generally curved-shape proximal boundary is spaced a distance from the second generally curved-shape distal boundary to receive a thumb of a user on the bolster.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a heat exchanger housing (1) for at least one heat exchanger for exchanging heat between a first fluid, in particular an exhaust gas or charge air, and a second fluid, in particular a coolant (6). According to the concept of the invention, a bypass duct (40) is integrated in the heat exchanger housing (1), with the housing having a housing body (10) with a chamber which is designed to be traversed by the second fluid and to hold a number of flow ducts which can be traversed by the first fluid; a bypass duct (40) which is designed to be traversed by the first fluid; with the chamber and the bypass duct (40) being formed in one piece with the housing body (10).
Abstract:
A dripless means for a fuel dispensing nozzle begins with a nozzle for dispensing fuel into automobile tanks. Regulations limit drainage of the spout to within ten seconds, met by the present invention that prevents fuel drops from exiting the spout. First, the spout retains fuel drops behind a dam made of a series of fins upon the interior of the spout. Second, the present invention has a bushing with a weir that works in combination with the damming. Third, the nozzle has a vent tube within the spout where a plug constricts its diameter to limit the fuel drawn into the vent tube. With proper use, the present invention retains fuel drops in the spout to meet the regulations.
Abstract:
A digital video surveillance system includes a video server in a law enforcement vehicle which allows recording to digital optical media including DVD RAM disks, a removable hard disk drive, and other media such as compact flash memory. Shock-mounting and environmental assistance may be provided. The system includes a memory buffer that is recording at all times. When the recorder is activated, the memory buffer contents, including video and audio, are recorded onto the media before the system starts recording directly from the video camera. Recording rates and compression formats may be user-selectable. A method may also be provided to capture or receive snapshots and output them to or receive them from a wireless transmitter such as a cellular modem for missing persons or suspect identification, for example.
Abstract:
A sonde cleaning brush is disclosed that has a plurality of bristles extending from the brush surface. The bristles have a stiffener attached to the bristles causing the stiffness of the bristles to increase along the length of the brush while preserving the flexibility of the bristles perpendicular to the brush length. There may be one or more stiffeners attached to the brush bristles.
