    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention generally relate to extendable cutting tools for use in a wellbore. In one embodiment, a tool for use in a wellbore includes a tubular body having a bore therethrough, an opening through a wall thereof, and a connector at each longitudinal end thereof; and an arm. The arm is pivotally connected to a first piston and rotationally coupled to the body, is disposed in the opening in a retracted position, and is movable to an extended position where an outer surface of the arm extends outward past an outer surface of the body. The tool further includes the first piston. The first piston is disposed in the body bore, has a bore therethrough, and is operable to move the arm from the retracted position to the extended position in response to fluid pressure in the piston bore exceeding fluid pressure in the opening. The tool further includes a lock operable to retain the first piston in the retracted position; and a second piston operably coupled to the lock.

    Abstract: EARTH REMOVAL MEMBER WITH FEATURES FOR FACILITATING DRILL-THROUGH An earth removal member (1) for drilling a wellbore with casing or liner, comprising: a tubular body (5); a head (10) fastened to or formed with an end of the body (5), having a face (10f) and a side (10g), made from a high strength material, and having head ports (10p) formed through the face (10f); a blade (15a) formed on the head (10), extending from the side (10g) and along the face (10f), and made from the high strength material; cutters (20) disposed along the blade (15a); nozzle adapters (450), each nozzle adapter (450) disposed in a respective head port (10p) and having an adapter port (450p) formed therethrough, each nozzle adapter (450) longitudinally and rotationally coupled to the head (10), and each nozzle adapter (450) made from a drillable material selected from a group consisting of copper, brass, bronze, aluminium, zinc, tin, alloys thereof, or a polymer; a nozzle (100) disposed in each adapter port (450p) and fastened to the respective nozzle adapter (450), wherein: a nominal thickness of the face (10f) facilitates drill-through by a drill bit, each nozzle adapter (450) has a thickness greater than the nominal thickness, and a length of each nozzle (100) is greater than the nozzle adapter (450) thickness.

    Abstract: A method of forming a wellbore includes providing a drilling assembly comprising one or more lengths of casing and an axially retracting assembly having a first tubular; a second tubular at least partially disposed in the first tubular and axially fixed thereto; and a support member disposed in the second tubular and movable from a first axial position to a second axial position relative to the second tubular, wherein, in the first axial position, the support member maintains the second tubular axially fixed to the first tubular, and in the second axial position, allows the second tubular to move relative to the first tubular; and an earth removal member disposed below the axially retracting assembly.
