Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the better harmony with an ink covering range and change the compounding agents for printing process black by a method wherein the amount of first colorant used for printing a background region in determined so as to reduce the difference between the amount of second colorant used for printing a process black region. SOLUTION: Instead of employing process black, the compounding agent of which are fixed, the amount of the non-black toner used in object is process block is wherever a process black encountered. The calculated value can be based on both background colors and printer parameters. Further, the setting of the allowable maximum toner height for good quality printing, the difference between the maximum toner height of background and that of foreground and the like becomes possible. These parmeterte change in response to respective printing systems. Accordingly, as long as the background containing high level toner is concerned, process black containing high level non-black toner can also be printed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a page preparer using a digital system to specify a specific process for rendering individual page elements. SOLUTION: A printing system for use in printing objects of any of a plurality of different object types includes a printer and a printer control device with a user interface having a first option for associating printer-independent print-quality characteristics with a selected object type to be printed by the printer. The printer-independent print-quality characteristic is an instruction associated with an element such as an object type in an electronic page which indicates printer-independent features that are preferentially emphasized when printing the elements. The examples of printer-independent print-quality characteristics include 'the preparation of sharp edges', 'the reduction of mottle', 'the distinction of neighboring colors', and 'the reduction of moire'.
