    Abstract: A calibration system, for calibrating a printer response to halftone images directed thereto, includes a test pattern, stored in a memory, providing a plurality of samples of combinations of printed spots, printable on a media by the printer; a gray measuring device, to derive a gray measurement of the samples of printed spots; a calibration processor correlating gray measurements with a particular combination of spots, and deriving parameters describing the printer response to the particular combination; generating at least one gray image correction, including a set of correction values selected in accordance with said the described printer response, and a calibration memory, storing the generated halftone patterns.

    Abstract: This invention is a method of producing a set of TRC's for a color printer' s secondary halftone screens that is correlated with the printer's primary halftone screens. The method makes use of the printer/screen characteristic data that is normally gathered during screen calibration. However, instead of progressing from the data to a normal calibration for the secondary screens, the method goes backward through the data starting with the finished primary screen TRC's. The method insures that for every primary screen density, the closest possible secondary screen density is used when t he same digital value is specified.

    Abstract: The process involves printing an image stored in a buffer onto a medium, each image comprising a number of pixels. Each pixel has four colours, which are defined by a number which describes the density of one colour of a pixel, and each pixel having an x and y value describing a position of the pixel in the image. The entire image is printed in each colour before going on to the next colour, and the method involves producing a halftone reference level from the x and y values of each pixel to be printed. The density number is compared to the halftone reference level to produce an output bit. In response, the printer is caused to print a pixel on the medium. For three colours of the image, the halftone reference levels are at values necessary to generate a halftone screen having two axes at right angles to each other for each colour, with the resulting six axes being sepd. by 30 degrees from the nearest axis. For the fourth colour, the halftone reference levels are of the levels necessary to generate a halftone screen having three axes, each being 60 degrees apart, and being sepd. by 15 degrees from the nearest of the six axes of the other colours.

    Abstract: A set of halftone screens and a write white xerographic system are used for generating halftone images with a minumum of artifacts. The screens used in a four color printer have at least 64 pixels per pattern and are distributed to create four-centered dots that are at either -14, 0, + 14 or +45 degrees (Figs.11,12,9 and 13). The xerographic process involves charging the photoreceptor (Fig.14A), partially discharging the photoreceptor with a scanning beam to create an image (Fig.14B), and then using toner which adheres to the charged portions of the photoreceptor to create the hard copy (Figs.14C,14D).
