Abstract: A document containing colored strokes or lines is reproduced in a way to preserve the color intent if the reproduced document is copied on a black-and-white device. Dashed lines are generated for insertion into the stroke, with dashing patterns that reflect the original color of the stroke. Outlining in black or white, dependent on the stroke color, may be provided. If the stroke is wide enough, the color within the stroke may alternatively be reproduced with a black and white reproducible pattern.

Abstract: The system, for reproducing a colour document in a format enabling improved black and white copying retaining colour intent of the colour document, includes a document input, receiving electronic documents having image areas in it designated to be printed in a number of colours. The image processor processes the documents for printing and converts each colour into a set of repeated patterns. Each set of repeated patterns is unique to a single colour and corresponds to a basis colour set. The patterns vary with the density of colour in a corresponding area in the document. The printer reproduces the image areas so that patterns for each colour are added together to form a final image, which when copied, retains colour intent in terms of differentiation of areas of colour. The printer is a colour printer, printing each colour with a single colourant in a limited set of it.

Abstract: A document containing colored text is reproduced in a way to preserve the color intent if the reproduced document is copied on a black-and-white device. For small text, the fact that it is colored, is conveye d by reproducing it bold, and for medium size text, by reproducing it outlined. For large text, both the fact that it is colored and the color used can be conveyed by filling the interior of the characters with patterns that correspond directly to the color.

Abstract: Mapping an image comprising a plurality of pixels from color to black-and-white includes determining, on a pixel-by-pixel basis, the amount of a plurality of color components in a color image. Each color component is applied to its own halftone screen, each screen comprising of a plurality of cells. Certain cells areas of each screen have been allocated to a single color component to yield texture patterns. The halftone screens of the color components are combined to yield a black-and- white textured image.

Abstract: A method of applying noise removal to an image so that the areas having the greatest variance have the least correction. First, the variance between each image pixel and its surrounding pixels is determined. Next, for the neighborhood around each pixel, a density of variance is determined. Finally the density of variance for the neighborhood around each pixel is used to correct the original pixel, the direction of correction being toward the mean value in the surrounding pixels. The result is that relatively uniform areas of the image, within which noise is most obvious, will get the most correction and areas that are textured will get the least.
