Abstract: Write operations for weakly consistent replicated database systems have embedded dependency queries and related descriptions of the results expected to be returned when respective dependency queries are run against the databases. Write operations that conflict with the current state of any given instance of such a database are detected by comparing the results that are returned when the dependency queries for those writes are run against the given instance of the database with the results that are expected to be returned.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a method and a system by which mobile, remote, adaptable controllers can dynamically control a multitude of resources within a given region (e.g. a room) such that policies determined for the region, controllers, and resources can be arbitrated in a manner that creates a meaningful work environment for users in the region. Furthermore, the present invention allows a controller to dynamically choose one of various modes of operation, either singly or in combination, allowing the user of the controller a maximum of flexibility in interacting with the resources in the region. These modes of operation comprise, but are not limited, to: a manual mode whereby a user may select a list of available resources that meet region-level policy and two automatic modes whereby controllers and resources may, without direct user input, make requests and allocation based on region-level policy and other constraints. The present invention maximizes the control of the resources of a region such that the control of the most suitable resources is dynamically situated in the hands of the user on an adaptable mobile controller.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning pen which has plural modes for scanning and processing different data types and is used for an information management system by containing a user feedback device responding to an execution input mode. SOLUTION: A scanning pen 2410 as an input device contains a mounted controller 2412, a data interface 2414 (infrared or RF radio link and the like), an optical scanning head 2416, a manual scanning controller (at least one push key) 2418, a visual feedback mechanism 2420 (display light or display screen), an audio or feeling feedback mechanism 2422 and a mounted storage device 2424. A display screen 2420 operates to recognize a recognized character positioned below the scanning head 2416 and the present mode of the pen 2410 to a user. Thus, the mode can be changed by a manual operation by scanning a digital code printed in a mode book.
