Abstract:
An ultrasonic sound emitting apparatus produces an undesireable noise for animals such as dogs and cats to deter such animals from trespassing within certain geographical locations with this noise being of such a high frequency level that it is not heard by most human beings. The apparatus includes a housing with an ultrasonic emitter being mounted within a reflector cone formed within the front face of the housing. The sound emitter is moveable relative to the cone between a projected position and a retracted position and when in the retracted position the pattern of sound emitted is substantially wider than when the emitter is in the projected position. With the emitter in the projected position the pattern of sound emitted is of substantially greater length than the pattern of sound with the emitter in the retracted position. A sensor such as an infrared sensor is to be mounted within the front face of the housing which will cause activation of the emitter only upon an animal being detected.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for producing ultrasonic sound waves used to disperse rodents including negative feedback damping of a tuned band-pass filter output circuit. An electrical signal is frequency modulated, amplitude modulated asynchronously with the frequency modulation, pulsed on and off and applied to a speaker to produce ultrasonic sound waves corresponding thereto. The output signal is passed through a tuned band-pass filter circuit which includes negative feedback damping to reduce the power consumption of the amplification of the output signal and in part to produce the band-pass characteristics of the band-pass filter output circuit.
Abstract:
An ultrasonic system for intermittently producing pulses of energy for permanently repelling rats and other noxious fauna. The system includes a voltage-controlled oscillator capable of generating an ultrasonic signal whose frequency lies within a range to which noxious fauna are highly sensitive. Means are provided to apply voltages intermittently to the oscillator to produce an output signal whose frequency depends on the applied voltage and to convey this signal for a brief period to one or more ultrasonic transducers arranged to irradiate an infested area, the applied voltages having random values whereby each radiated pulse of energy has a different frequency and rats exposed to the ultrasonic pulses are unable to acquire deaf immunity.
Abstract:
A light source suitable for use in a conventional light socket of a conventional light fixture includes an integral sonic repelling device operable to generate sound at a frequency that is inaudible to humans but that repels pests such as mice and rats.
Abstract:
A low duty cycle relaxation oscillator periodically gates an ultrasonic frequency relaxation oscillator into an on state. The ultrasonic frequency oscillations are supplied to an electric-compressional wave transducer by way of a push-pull driver. The duty cycle and repetition rate of the relaxation oscillator and the ultrasonic oscillation frequency are such that compressional waves derived by the transducer incident on fleas in the region where the transducer is located repels the fleas. All active elements in the oscillator and driver are CMOS devices which draw only leakage current while in quiescent bi-level states and through current from a battery during transitions between the bi-level states. The drain from the battery is reduced by connecting a high impedance between the battery and the CMOS devices during a relaxation oscillator transition.
Abstract:
Ultrasonic pest control apparatus comprising an elongated housing having opposite ends, a sound generator carried by the housing adjacent one end thereof and including at least one transducer for providing output sound waves when driven by an electrical signal, the sound waves being directed outwardly from the end of the housing and having a frequency normally inaudible to humans and intolerable by pests such as rodents and the like, and an electrical connector element at the other end of the housing adapted to be inserted manually into a standard electrical outlet receptacle commonly found in buildings and the like. The connector can be of the prong type or of the threaded type commonly found on the base of electric lamps. The transducer preferably is driven in a manner such that the generated sound waves are a composite output in the form of a random pattern of harmonies.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for repelling rats and mice from an area by means of generation of a modulated ultrasonic sound level. The sound level is frequency modulated within a range of ultrasonic frequencies to which rats and mice respond. In addition, it is amplitude modulated in a random manner. The modulations of the signal prevent rats and mice from adapting to the sound, and thereby renders the sound particularly unpleasant to them.
Abstract:
Pests, such as fleas and ticks, are repelled from domestic animals, such as dogs and cats, by attaching an ultrasonic compressional wave energy source to the animal in such a position that a beam of the compressional wave energy is directed downwardly toward a surface on which the animal is located. Energy in the beam is reflected from the surface back to the animal. The energy has sufficient intensity, as reflected back to and incident on the animal, to repel the pests. The energy is pulsed on and off at a relatively low duty cycle at a rate above a predetermined minimum, such that during each pulse the envelope amplitude varies.
Abstract:
A device for generating and radiating ultrasonic sound waves for the control of pests such as rodents, insects and the like comprising a housing having at least two surface portions, an electrically operated sound generator carried by the housing associated with one of the housing surface portions for providing output sound waves directed outwardly from the one surface portion of the housing and in an ultrasonic frequency range normally inaudible to humans and intolerable by pests such as rodents, insects and the like, and a pair of spaced-apart prongs of electrically conducting material extending from the other of the housing surface portions and connected electrically to the sound generator and adapted for insertion manually into the socket of a standard electrical outlet receptacle commonly found in buildings and the like for supplying electricity to the sound generator and simultaneously supporting and holding the device. The prongs are the sole means for supporting and holding the device relative to the outlet. A stabilizing bar extends from the other housing surface portion at a location spaced from the prongs and is adapted to contact the receptacle in a manner spacing the other surface portion a desired distance from the receptacle. The sound generator comprises a plurality of transducers arranged in two groups operating in two frequency ranges in a manner providing a composite output in the form of a random pattern of frequencies and amplitude peaking in the ultrasonic frequency range.
Abstract:
A method of and system for sonifying a portion of a given area to rid the area of unwanted pests comprising providing at least one ultrasonic point source each producing a set of pulsed signals having a randomly varying frequency in the range of about 18-30 KHz and having an intensity of at least 90 dB at the periphery of a cone shaped area extending outwardly therefrom and having a predetermined maximum length and a predetermined maximum width. The point sources are spaced in the given area to maintain the minimum sound intensity level at any point in the sonified portion at not less than 90 dB by disposing point sources opposite one another when the distance therebetween is greater the maximum length, disposing point sources adjacent one another to effect a longitudinal overlapping of adjacent cones when the room width is greater than the maximum width and disposing point sources perpendicular to the adjacent point sources to sonify any dead space therebetween.
